How to purge old unused posters (bulk)?

I have added several custom poster over the course of the last months, now when I press “refresh metadata” instead of pulling the latest poster, it picks one of my old custom made posters at random. Is there a way to. purge old unused posters in bulk?

Someone shared a python script but that seems like a pretty complicated way to do something that likely is natively doable?

screenshot1: my posters once I did a library refresh (aka. they don’t get reset properly)

screenshot2: the very large amount of old posters kept in cache that I would like to purge

Unfortunately, I don’t think there is a bulk way to do this easily.

This is a desired function for most who don’t want to see their manually selected posters disappear after they refresh metadata for the library

Plex isn’t suppose to change anything about your metadata if it’s a locked in choice

You see the little lock icon next to the title for example. When you add and select a custom poster you are essentially locking that field

This is the equivalent to locking your poster in

I’ve seen people here complain that their custom posters disappeared after a metadata refresh, but it only appears to be reproduceable by accident lol

I see – is there a way to unlock the posters then? so when you do a metadata refresh it would refresh the poster as well?

Basically, posters once edited become locked in plex which looking at your OP appears to be what is happening. But you can unlock it using this process → Reset all manual poster selections in a library at once or unlock other metadata fields

Once unlocked you can then force refresh which will pull whatever the default poster is at that point based on your settings.
