I reverted from App Preview to the old UI: Here is why

Server Version#: 1.21.1.3830
Player Version#: 5.5?

After 5 months of working with the App Preview on my Samsung Tizen TV I have decided to revert to the original UI. Though I prefer much of the actual UI in the Preview and like some of the new features (like being able to see the guide in grid format) my day to day primary use under Preview is significantly less usable. I use Plex almost exclusively as a DVR. In addition for half the year I access my Plex DVR remotely (also on a Samsung TV – same model year/different size). I DVR shows not only to time shift them but most importantly to manually skip the commercials using FF and RW.

FF and RW have been consistently inaccurate in the App Preview. Though the UI indicates it is FF or RW to a specific time when the operation is complete it has commonly skips to a different time – usually a few minutes off. This occurs more often for RW than FF but happens with both. It happens more consistently in longer recordings (> 1 hour) and once you have gotten into the playback (>30 min). I had hoped that each update/new release might address this but as of last week I decided to revert to see if the problem also existed under the old UI. It does not. Since reverting FF and RW to a specific location results in going to that location.

The second area where I find the old UI better than the new one is using FF and RW to skip commercials when I am accessing from my remote location (also on a Samsung TV). In the old UI, to skip a commercial, you could pause the playback, FF by either progressively pressing to jump 30 seconds ahead or holding to skip a specific amount of time. When done Plex would very quickly (locally) and reasonably quickly (remotely) jump to the location, display the current paused frame at that location and wait until you pressed play to continue. This allows you to easily adjust your location a few times via FF/RW to get you to the right position before restarting the playback. In the new UI Plex, even if you pause the playback first, Plex jumps to the new location and starts to automatically start the playback at this location. Though this is a little slower locally and hence somewhat palatable it is quite slow when done remotely. Since you often have to tweek ahead/back to get to actual location to start after the commercial, remote access becomes quite painful.

Anyway, when I reverted back to the old UI, the Plex display asked me to send my issues/concerns that caused me to rollback to this forum. I hope you (Plex) will take these two usability issues to heart and address them in the new UI as I not only would prefer to be running it now but figure there is a point in the future when it will be my only option.
