ImdB or the movie database ?

Hi,

Which is most relevant for cast list and plot summary ? Imdb or the movie database ? Or it’s the same ?

thanks

IMDB is ‘Plex Movie’ and that is used to draw those precious low-budget trailers for PP users - and also performs some other purposes, the value of which escapes me at the moment.

TMDB is a fine Movie Database - I’ve never had it miss.

However, in the Movie Agent area there’s a tab for both:
https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/200241558-Agents

Under the Plex Movie tab, Plex Movie should be at the top - Local Media Asshats at the bottom (in case you use MP4/M4V files). You can put TMDB in the #2 slot.

Under TMDB, TMDB should be at the top - Local Media Asshats at the bottom (in case you use MP4/M4V files). You can put Plex Movie in the #2 slot.

You’ll probably note that TMDB is the primary agent - and I wouldn’t change that. Plex Movie (IMDB) will do what it has to if it’s Agent is atop the list under it’s tab - and that’s how I suggest you run it.

I also can’t suggest strongly enough that you demote Local Media Asshats to the bottom of every list in Shows or Movies - unless you have some special need. If you ever use MP4/M4V files you will quickly find out why, but trust me, the bottom of the list is where LMA should be. You should only ‘Demote’ LMA, not ‘Disable’ it. LMA is used for subs and local artwork (etc), but it usually does NOT need to be at the top - which oddly enough continues to be it’s default.

Do you have any custom series or season posters? Does Plex use your custom season posters?
I have my LMA at the top for a very, very long time because Plex refused to use my posters. It always fetched the online pic and stopped there…

I mean, logically thinking, the whole thing is illogical. The agents are placed in a order of importance, the top being the most important and bottom being less. So… How can one use a custom poster if LMA is at the bottom of the list and Plex was able to find a suitable poster online with one of the top agents.
Does LMA supersede the other agents? If this is true then the order of LMA should be removed from the list.

…should be LMA enabled or LMA disabled.

Yes, and Yes.

I simply name and place the poster image as indicated in the documentation. Poster shows up. Not complicated.

If you want to use Local Artwork/Subtitles/etc LMA must be enabled.
If you want to use MP4/M4V files you better have LMA at the bottom of the lists - or Plex will make your life a living HELL.
