[Implemented] Custom Collection Sorting - Machete Order

And it appears we’re good to go

are there going to be some sort of instructions on how to obtain this drag and drop functionality ?

EDIT: after a few browser refreshes and a clear cache, I see the light now

Correct – this requires Plex Web 4.60.1 or newer… so it’s currently only available using the hosted version of Plex Web (https://app.plex.tv/desktop). The bundled Plex Web and the version in the Plex for Mac/Windows desktop clients are going to follow suit once they’re updated to that version too.

It’s awesome Tom

Looks good, but one problem: When I drag/drop a movie in a collection, it changes the order as expected, but it also opens the movie detail page of the movie I dragged.

In what browser are you experiencing this?
I’ve been dragging a few and cannot reproduce this in Safari

Seems to be unique to Firefox.

This is a known issue in Firefox (I use it daily). I’m looking for a solution but in the mean time just use the “grab handle” and it won’t navigate.

Looks like it only works on the first row in multi-library collections:

Edit: Maybe this should be a new thread. :frowning:

Ah, yes that is a weird UX. Those aren’t really “in” the collection, those are “related hubs” that happen to be collections of the same name.

You’ll need to navigate to those collections proper to order them.

So I did that - I went to my audiobook library and opened the Harry Potter collection. I drag/dropped one audiobook.

When I went back to the Movie library and opened the Harry Potter collection, all the ‘related hubs’ were gone.

Once you’ve done this, you have to delete the collection in each library, then rebuild them in order to get back to the original state.

In Firefox, again. I’ll fire up my Windows machine and try other browsers.

Same result in Vivaldi browser, which is Chromium-based.

Thanks for this drag-and-drop. Today was the day I decided to create a Marvel collection manually and found this thread in trying to figure out how to change the sort order in the collection…

Off-topic, what’s the correct tag to put on Marvel movies so it gets all the correct data from tmdb? I’ve tried Marvel Cinematic Universe, MCU and Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) with refresh meta-data after each but there’s no collection details being pulled down.

tmdb doesn’t have an MCU collection

From their site:

While sometimes controversial, collections are not intended to be a way of grouping movies of the same universe, person, character or theme, or imitating box sets. We recommend using lists for content not allowed as a collection.

See: Overview - Collection Bible — The Movie Database (TMDB)

That would be why. Thanks!

Thanks for the report, I will share this with the server team.

Great new option, thx!

What about the option to sort by release date descending? This would be great for big collections, with newest first?

That seems… odd for a movie series but I could see it for a broader setup? A Smart Collection would let you create your collection with specific sort order if that might work for you.

For example, all Action movies with newest first:

I’ve been digging the Smart Collections a lot.

Edit: Or a manual collection and now you can sort it all however you like if smart collection doesn’t work.

You would need to make a smart collection for that. which stays sorted by however the filter was when it is made
