[Implemented] Server-Side Speed Limits/Caps for Shared/Subscribed Users

I would love to see this. I have so many users trying to stream massive files from me, and explaining to them how to lower their quality settings on every client is like pulling teeth.

well +1 on this i am a happy shared server owner and half my friends are n00bs and i already have people like this to manage at work.. this would just make sense THX :)

+1

Would love my ISP to dramatically increase my upload speed, but since that's never going to happen, I'll beg for this instead!  :P

+1 I haven't run into an issue yet, but I can see this becoming a problem in the future for me.

I’d definitely like to see a built in Bandwidth Monitor and cap. I currently use plexwatch to somewhat gauge my heavy users (my brother & wife) from my causal users (mom).

Yes plus 1

Time to re-like your favorites, everyone. And bump them to the top of this new, weird-lookin’ forum :stuck_out_tongue:

Most of my friends really do not understand, and think that bandwidth is a technical rubber band sizing specification. Would be helpful for those of us with fast rigs and low upstream.

+1 for this. Especially with limited upload.

Yes.
I would love to see a global maximum for how many mbit a single stream is allowed to use.
not everyone understands how to change that speed or is simply not willing too which causes issues

A global maximum for how many mbit a single stream is allowed to use + a total maximum (bandwidth ór # streams) to guarantee quality for the first # users.

This is needed badly.

Sorely needed!

i agree this is very much needed!

+1 I could use this feature as well as i have users that keep changing settings whenever they run into problems streaming without actually knowing what they are doing (and actually making things worse). I don’t have time to personally monitor all connections and ensure they are staying under the limits i have asked them to so it would make sense to add this as a feature to the server. I think i liked this thread back in the old forum but i liked it again in the new forum to get some visibility.

Seeing how I just moved to a new place with less bandwidth. It would be super helpful as I have had to stop sharing all together.

Commenting for visibility, especially since the “likes” didn’t transfer over.

This needs to happen. I’m tired of my family installing a new Plex app, forgetting to lower the quality, and saturating my bandwidth. And it makes no sense that this is a per-client setting. ABSOLUTELY needs to be defined from the server-side.

I know what you mean. I have to be very careful with letting people access my plex server otherwise I can’t even use it since I am located in another city from where I keep my servers.

What’s even more frustrating is that I currently run two remote servers, one with most of my media and a very limited upload speed while the other has only a small amount of media but an effectively unlimited upload speed. Right now, I have to run all my clients at the lower speed because I can’t even have different bandwidth settings between servers. Everything is client side and I really can’t see the justification for it (excluding legacy code).

This one fix would go a long way towards improving my plex experience and to me is way more important and valuable than adding things like trailers, movie extras and all that kind of stuff.

Yes please add limit bandwith per user. And the clients which are connecting has to read this setting from the server and apply it automatic to the quality settings!

Just checking back in—glad to see people are of the same mind as I am. It’s somewhat disheartening, however, to not see it implemented after all this time :/.

Brilliant idea!!!
