This is not a thread for replies. This is a thread to show the devs which things are important for the users. Since this system came in place the devs have used all these requests as a basis when planning for future things to add/solve. This one has not yet been solved, but many of the others. Among the unsolved ones this is now very high up. No idea how high up in the internal list though, but the devs are aware of the popularity.
There's one thing with this voting which I wanted to say a while back but now I have user map on new plex web to support it.
If you take a look at a map, you will notice a lot of Plex users are coming from USA and UK or from a countries like France and Germany. This means that users that are depending on subtitles mostly choose other solutions than Plex (they are dubbing movies in France and Germany).
Now, how much value does this voting bring since it:
1) comes from PlexPass users only
2) a lot of users that would benefit from it are using XBMC or something else

Valid point. But as you see there are a lot of votes for this, so we still have a lot of Plexpass users that are passionate about this.
I completely disagree:
1st there are many users outside US & UK.
2nd I personally have many movies from exotic countries also many not very known movies.
I can fluently use english, but I do not speak spanish, chinese, and many other languages.I have to mention I hate dubbed movies, which I think kills movie.

There are many but still far, far less than in native english countries as they do not depend that much on subtitles.
But that's not the point. Point is there would be far, far more if subtitle support would be better. There's a big difference between needing subtitles for a handful of movies and needing subs for every movie AND tv episode, thus, those users are not using Plex.

I'm from the Netherlands, i allready voted for this feature, but now i'm using XBMC in my living room and using plex for my ipad. But as soon as this feature is available i will switch over completely to Plex.
I hope this feature will become available soon!
I use english subs on english audio as well - there's always a word or sentence you don't hear well - so +1.

After just switching to Plex this is one of the things Iām missing the most from XBMC. It would also be useful to rescan for new metadata from the client instead of serverside only. But this feature would eliminate the need for that.

I empathize with the folks who do not speak English and require Subtitles to enjoy a Movie.
But as I said in another thread, the Subtitle standards we are using are not very good.Ā
The only Subtitles that seem to work well are those incorporated into MKVs since there is little doubt that the Subtitles inside the container actually fit the movie track.
And while I agree that XBMC has a very nice ability to search for subtitles in your preferred language by pausing the movie, Searching Opensubtitles.org for a match to the title of what is playing and then display it...
It can do that because XBMC is not doing any transcoding at all and merely overlaying the subtitles over the source video.
Plex does transcode and therefore it is not easy to do what XBMC does as far as Subtitles is concerned.
Thats not to say it is impossible to mimic in some way just that it requires a lot more to happen under Plex than currently happens with XBMC.
Truth is the entire way we do subtitles (as a Planet not talking Plex) needs an update and standardization.
Matching names of files is a pretty poor way of matching up subtitles to Video content and some better markup method inside the subtitle is in order to make sure the subs match the video, the Text matches the dialogue and I would even like the standard to go further where one subtitle file would support any cut of that movie that existed.

Subtitles are very important to me, Iām not a native English speaker, my family and friends need the subs and this is causing me to use xbmc on my HT Mac mini while keep plex for my own mobile use.
Iād love to use plex only everywhere but the subtitle issues are annoying. I use filebot to auto download subs but if it didnāt fetch the right one and I need to change it, I have to exit plex and manually search for alternatives, with XBMC I can simply search many sites and select any of multiple options.
I have another issue, some subtitle files get displayed on XBMC but not on PLEX. I found later that this depend on the file encoding. Plex ignores the file while XBMC somehow fixes it on the spot and displays the subs. That is another dreadful headache.
+1, there is also a problem with encoding foreign language characters (ex: central and eastern Europe)
