Information in the "Now Playing" section of the Dashboard

I have a question about the information shown on the Dashboard.

When I play a song on my Sonos system that comes from “Plex for Sonos”, the dashboard shows that music is currently playing (which is not only correct, but great!)

My question is about the information shown:

Of course, the top is self-explaining (song title, album and artist)

Below that, there is information about the player that is playing the song

Plex for Sonos --
Playing -- 0:25 / 2:30
Indirect -- 672 Kbps

Question 1: is there supposed to be anything after that dash in “Plex for Sonos --”?
Question 2: what does the indication “Indirect” mean?

Below that, there is another section:

Audio Unknown (MP3 Stereo)
        |->  Direct play

Question 3: what does the indication “Unknown” mean?
Question 4: how does “direct play” relate to the “Indirect” indication above?

Kind regards,
Hans

  • Q1: Usually this shows the client name (e.g. when playing from my desktop it shows Plexamp -- Tom's iMac)
  • Q2: Indirect refers to the network communication. It implies you were playing something outside your home network and that the client couldn’t directly connect to your Plex server. Instead the app connected through a relay server provided by Plex. This won’t be of much concern when it comes to audio playback but it’ll impact your video playback (from that server) as it’s limited to 1 Mbit/s (2 Mbit/s for Plex Pass users)

  • Q3: Unknown means the audio track has no name – this is usually only used with movies to identify which audio track is being played
  • Q4: Direct Play means the media is not changed/transcoded to suit the playback device (or correspondingly: the client can play the original format of your music).
