No, because some artists only have one album.
It really shouldn’t be that hard to implement, since it’s already implemented with Movies and TV Shows.

You’re missing the point here. I’d like a page to see ALL music collections, whether they are artist or album collections. I don’t want to have to switch between artist view or album view just to see their collections.
That’s the Collections tab then, isn’t it?
I would like to add that this is also important for series of albums. I have many album series of the kind “vol. 1”, “vol. 2” and so on. Some of them enormous classical collection with several discs each. It is a mess without collapsible collections…
This feature would really make things much more flexible. You could create whatever hierarchy you want. I don’t understand why after years we don’t have the same feature as for movies. If another similar software offered this it would be enough to make me switch instantly. My “Various artists” artist is a mess because of this. My only alternative is ignoring the volume division and giving sequential disc numbers. But then I lack the volume info (like which performer this volume is about, e.g. “Vol. 32 - Walter Gieseking I”).
In foobar2000 I can set this up nicely just based on tags:

Yes. On the collections tab in a music library, we should see both artist AND album collections, and not have to switch between views to get the collection we need/want.
I wonder if we’re talking about the same thing… this is what I get to see when accessing the collection tab of my music library. The screenshot shows 3 collections… two artist collections and one album collection. All in the same view.
Isn’t that what you’re looking for?
Well, that’s new. Didn’t do that before. It’s exactly what I asked for. When did this get implemented? It certainly wasn’t doing this last September when I asked. Give a big thanks to the developers. (Although now as I test it, it works great in the web client, but not my Windows desktop app. I’ll see what it’s like in PlexAmp, since that is what I use 99% of the time to listen to my music.)
What I’m asking for is this:

My post was in response to another user. I think that turned out to be a bit of a side-track and to have already been implemented.
Your original suggestion stands and is not impacted by that ![]()
I love my setup with movies and TV displaying inline collections, but would love a similar option for music.
As of right now, all adding music to a collection does is add it to a movie or TV collection, almost as an afterthought.
What I’m envisioning is something like this:
Let’s use the Beatles as an example.
You can have 5 collections: The Beatles, John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr.
Every solo album from each member of the Beatles is marked in the Beatles collection as well as their own respective collection.
That way, when you click on the Beatles collection, it would then have each of the 5 artists available to explore their albums, or just each of the 5 artists’ albums listed in chronological order.
I also would like to see something like this.
I collect collections such as the Back to Mine and FabricLive series, all by different artists. I would prefer to have them collected together under their collection name inline, to keep it nice and tidy - especially as many of these artists I don’t have any further work form and don’t need an ‘artist’ folder.
There are good examples of use cases here: Collection function in music library - #9 by whitts1

If this is ever implemented, please consider the following as a suggestion to include in this functionality.
In music libraries we can currently tag both artists and albums as being part of a collection (but they are not mixed - there are collections for artists and collections for albums). However, to see a collection of albums or artists you must first change to display the library by artist or album, and then narrow the display by selecting the specific collection you want to see. Since I have collections of both artists and albums in my classical music library, I’d love to be able to see all the collections on one page, rather than having to switch back and forth among the various display options and drop down menus only to be limited to seeing the contents of one collection.
I would suggest a Collections page, just like in a movie library, that is selectable at the top of the library (Recommended - Library - Collections - Playlists). On that page show all music collections, displaying the name of the collection, and then underneath identifying it as “Artist Collection” or “Album Collection”. This would mimic the collections page in a movie library, but put “Artist” or “Album” where number of movies is displayed in a movie collection. One would then be able to see all the collections that have been created for that music library in one place, and drill down into a collection to select a specific piece of music.
Just now looking for this. Would be great to have the Collections hub just like the other libraries. Instead we have to use the filter to find what collection we want. @NeuroDawg has the gist of it though. The issue is likely due to the complexity of having both Artist and Album collections. Both have valid use cases. I voted. We’ll see what happens.
Please consider the implementation of this functionality. It would be much appreciated and a very nice improvement in my opinion! In addition to several of the examples already mentioned, I would love for instance to group all the albums from “1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die” inside a collection.
Just checking in as part of my “early 2021 clean-up”… is this suggestion asking for the same as the one linked below? – in that case I’d like to consider merging both threads (probably into the other one as it has 20 more votes)
These two suggestions do appear to be the same.
Yes, it’s asking for the same thing.
Thanks for the feedback. In that case let’s consolidate this.
I’ll be closing this thread. This will free up your vote here – please feel free to vote and comment in the sibling suggestion instead. In an ideal world this will push the other thread to 79 votes… but maybe there’s already some of you who voted in both.
My apologies for the inconvenience.
[edit: merged into the main thread to preserve votes]
I would really love to be able to hide the music I have in collections from my main library exactly as we can in Movies and TV. Please can this be implemented?
