Install Hyperion on Rasplex?

Evening guys,

I’ve installed Hyperion on my Raspberry Pi 2 with the latest version of RasPLEX. I’ve installed the Hyperion app on my android phone but how do I connect the two, Raspberry Pi and Android Phone? It says it can not find the Hyperion server.

Any help on this would be awesome.

Chris

I have sorted that bit.

Just performed a clean install of Rasplex to my SD card to resolve some other Rasplex issues. I reinstalled Hyperion as per the Openelec WIKI and restored the backed up version of my hyperion config but im getting no output on my lightpack. The hyperion daemon is running and I can connect to it from the Android app, so I am assuming this is potentially a driver issue? Also I am not seing the /dev/spidev device...

There is no /dev/spidev device when using a Lightpack. You can remove the contents of the output field completely.

However, I'm guessing you fell into the same trap I did: editing/replacing the wrong file. The config file used by the daemon is in /storage/.config/hyperion.config.json so make sure you're using the right file. There is a /storage/hyperion/config/hyperion.config.json file as well, but that one is NOT used.

Whaaaaaatttt?????!!!!

I edited the second one, which btw is the more obvious one, because it is on a not hidden folder... maybe it is also my problem, I'll check that when I get home...

Config is definitely the right one, also I am using a WS2801 LED string which does use SPI. However I cant remember whether it used the /dev/dpidev device before or whether it used another method??

Definetely that was my problem, thank you Djelibeybi!

Hmm, I backed up my previous (working) install to an image, so I am going to restore that and see if the lights work. I suspect I may be experiencing a coincidental hardware issue.

Ah, sorry. Don't know about anything besides using a Lightpack with Hyperion.

I've managed to crack this at last. Looks like this version of OpenElec doesnt natively include the Device Tree Overlay (essentially drivers) for the SPI interface. The fix is very simple, as per this thread you need to download the DTL file and copy it to the overlays folder on the SD card and then modify the config.txt so that it loads the DTL.

Hopefully this might help anyone else with an SPI lightpack who is having this issue!

Another odd thing, the xbmcTcpPort seems to have changed to 3005 in this latest version rather than the standard 9090.

Afternoon guys,

I need some help!!

A couple of us are trying this little project. We each have a Raspberry Pi 2, 5 metres of WS2801 LEDs, 5v 9a power supply, Hyperion installed correctly and contactable via the Hyperion android remote and also via the SSH test script.

But for all the will in the world we can not get the lights to play nicely. The first light in the string lights up white but nothing more than that. Are we missing something?

Any tips would really help.

Good news, full support for Hyperion OOTB (out of the box) is in the next release of Rasplex. See screenshot in this post https://forums.plex.tv/topic/146586-rasplex-051-released-issues-and-feedback/?p=877917

Coming 'soon'.

Thank you Ned for all of your help with RasPlex

I think you helped me out on the Pi Forums a few months back.

My only issue is that each of us have Hyperion installed and functioning properly, but nothing is out putting to the lights. I was wondering if someone who has it working could tell me if we were missing something.

ChrisHoppyBot, try this as described, sorted me out!

Evening All

Have ditched XBMC and joined Rasplex and installation went lovely as I expected it to.  But I am having a problem getting my light pack to work with 0.5.0.  I used the git hub https://github.com/tvdzwan/hyperion/wiki/Installation-on-RPi-with-OpenELEC guideall installed correctly but the lights do not come on at all.

Here is config file attached

I can't see anything untoward.  I made sure the light pack worked by testing using raspbmc image on another SD card and light pack is working fine on that image.

If anyone can put fresh pair of eyes on config file see if it is missing anything be much appreciated.

Thanks All

Panic over had config file in wrong place

Could you please edit this post to remove all of the text for the config file and just attach the file, it gets a bit tedious having to scroll through pages of text to get to the next post.

Thank you.

I've got a really strange problem with Hyperion. Leds are flickering random colors when Rasplex is playing something. The bussier the scene is the more leds are flashing randomly.

I'm activated the "swirl" effect and found out that it works really smooth while i'm in the menu (not playing anything) but as soon as I start a media file the swirl effect also starts flickering. It's really strange.

I've already tried to play with the bout rate but that didn't help at all.
