Installing Ubuntu from scratch for PMS

A suggestion?

Breathe !

A long time ago, in a galaxy far far away, I learned Linux too :stuck_out_tongue: LOL
( We called it Unix back then… hahahaha. Linux came a bunch of years later)

lol. Good idea. I’ll slow down a bit. :grinning:

Got this. I’m gonna reboot I guess?

1 & 4 ? You should have written more than that.

Why sdb and not sda ?

I did and wrote them to sda. sdb was in there and I could not delete it.

Confirm?

  1. You installed to SDA ?
  2. You did nothing to SDB ?
  3. You told it to install grub on SDA ?
  4. If the above are true… IGNORE

How many drives are in this? There should be 1

I may have deleted a partition in sdb Could that be my USB

You did.

:man_facepalming:

LOL

Son of a…
Ok. I’ll be absent for a bit while I go build another flash drive.

Build the flash drive…

See if what you installed works OR didn’t you get that far ?

It pushed me back to the previous screen and no option to install now.

yep. It slapped your wrist.

Make 100% certain you’re modifying the right device

LOL

I’m learning a lot. It hurts.

Linux will do EXACTLY what you tell it…

Even if that means to cut off both feet

I will undoubtedly demolish at least one of my computers.
Real quick. On the boot menu I have a 2 USB options. One has UEFI before it. I’m ok to use that one correct?

The USB boot disk , which is EFI compatible, should also say “Ubuntu” on it.
That’s obviously the one you want.

You should also recognize the USB drive in the boot options.

(off to bed, late here)

Thanks again Chuck!

Hey just wanted to check in and let you know I have installed Ubuntu 22.04 per your VM directions above (and without modifying my usb this time!) and all is good!

I am now on to setting up PMS and ripping some DVD’s. Undoubtedly I will run into issues but as for this thread, and my issue, consider it SOLVED! I want to say thanks for sticking with me on it. You are super helpful and, w/me being a noob to Linux, super patient!

EDIT:

I realized I still need to know what we are putting where. Assuming Home partition is for movies but what goes in the /partition?
