Invalid password when trying to change email address

When I try to change my email address using my password stored in my password manager, I get “Invalid password”. I am able to log into plex.tv with the same credentials without issue.

If you’ve changed them at Plex.tv, without logging out everything when you did (the checkbox there), PMS is still caching the old credentials.

This is why it won’t let you in with the new one.

The resolution here is to:

  1. Stop PMS.
  2. Manually edit "/var/lib/plexmediaserver/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Preferences.xml"
  3. Very carefully, you want to remove the PlexOnlineToken="value" Variable and value.
  4. Save and exit.
  5. Make certain Preferences.xml is still owned by user plex:plex
  6. Start PMS.
  7. You will now need claim it (the action above forced it to the signed-out status).
