iOS crash on 1080p HDR video

I have an interesting one. Last night my wife came to me complaining that a video on my server would not play on her iPad. I thought that seemed strange as the iPad almost never gives me any trouble with anything. She brought it in and I played the file on it only to find that every time I launched it the iPad would crash to the home screen. After that I decided to try playing the file on everything else in the house and it worked fine. Phones, Nvidia Shield, Windows ect. Today I did a little more digging and found that at the beginning of the video there is a large spike in bitrate to around 40-45Mbps that for some reason the iPad feels it needs transcoded even though I have quality set to maximum on it. Once the transcoding is triggered the Plex app crashes to the home screen and that is the end of it. Just seems strange to me that this file works fine everywhere else, including remote on a much less powerful Android smartphone running on a cell connection.
