yeah so says the plex marketing goon.
of course they are going to say that as they want their streaming partners to feel like it’s worthwhile to partner up with plex.
i would query this claim, and would like to see the raw data proving it to be true.
I suspect its probably true, having your own media server is pretty niche stuff really in the general populous.
Glad plexamp is getting some love
“along with a greater focus on Plexamp, Plex’s standalone music player for folks who have their own music collections. (It also serves as an alternative interface for Tidal.) This year, the company plans to bring Plexamp to more devices while also refining its existing apps for iOS, Android, MacOS, and Windows.”
considering the vast majority of plex users up until they starting this plex content streaming nonsense had a local plex server then they would have need to add an astonishing amount of plex content streaming only users to overtake the number of local plex server users.
all the linked stories have the same source, the VP of marketing.
so lets see the raw data that shows it to be true.
I would be curious how they categorize server users. We all have access to plex’s free content, so do we count for both? If so, every server user counts as a streaming user, but streaming users dont count as server users. So even if only one person used just the streaming service, they could claim it was more.
I imagine it’s true, also. My work sometimes comes with a bit of dead time when nothing’s going on. Folks there are always watching something on their computers. One fellow employee was watching plex, I mentioned that I had a personal media server also, thinking that he was watching his own content. He had no idea what I was talking about. Since then, through word of mouth, Plex has spread and others are watching its streaming content also.
