Is Plex Server with NVIDIA transcoding OFFICIALLY supported on the snap store?

Hello and thanks ahead for any assistance! I’ve added some links so you can see the pages I’m referencing.

I’m seeking clarification regarding the Plex Media Server on the Snap Store at snapcraft.io. It has a verified publisher mark, which seems to suggest that it comes from and is updated directly by Plex [1]. However, I can’t find any mention of installation via Snap in the Plex documentation.

Additionally, I’ve come across information suggesting that there might be issues with using NVIDIA hardware encoding with the Snap version[2]. The hardware encoding page doesn’t specify whether the official supported method is through a repository or Snap[3].

Could someone from the Plex support team address these concerns and provide clarification? I’d prefer not to use the Snap version if it’s not supported or if I need to perform extra steps, such as adding library paths or creating soft-links to library files to enable encoding (as mentioned in some forum discussions) [2].

I have some updates. I just now conducted a test using a clean install of Ubuntu 22.04 and installed the Snap version of Plex Media Server. The Plex server dashboard indeed indicated that NVIDIA hardware encoding was working when I streamed a movie.

To be fair, I revisited the thread at Plexmediaserver libcuda and nvidia transcoding - snap - snapcraft.io, and it appears that Tamas, who seems to work for Plex on their build team, mentioned looking into the issue in October 2021[1]. It seems that he (or someone at Plex) has fixed the problem!

So, I guess I answered my own question. I’ll leave the thread open, though, in case anyone from Plex officially wants to comment.
