Is Plex still open source

I am wondering if Plex is still open source? Where can we see the source ?

Yes, Plex itself is still open source. The source code is on GitHub. The Plex/Nine source will be pushed there at the same time as the binary is released, in keeping with past releases. Plex Media Server will remain a separate, closed-source application.

Awesome. Will wait for September 1st to look at the code base.

Why is the media server closed source?

It'd be really nice to contribute to the entirety of the project, and not be locked out of a crucial component.

What does the "Plex Team" gain by keeping it closed?

Thanks

I can understand the decision to keep the media server closed source, BUT, will you provide documentation for interacting with the media server either through the REST API or direct SQL access?

Yes, whats the reason behnd the decision to keep it closed? Is the iPhone App closed source as well?

Seriously? Um…Didn’t they just sign a deal let made enough so at least a couple of them quite their jobs to work on plex full time? It’s been said elsewhere, but has there not always been some sort of monetization dream from the get go. Who wouldn’t want that, as a developer? Also, it is said that one of the main reasons the release took so long was because development was going one way, and then went a totally different direction. Could this direction be to split into a client / server scenario instead of one big beast? I would think that the LG deal was such a gamechanger, and the crew saw a way to a) actually have the time/resources to code it their way B) they made it, why not sell it for integration into other devices? Plus, if it was open source, anyone could integrate whatever front end they wanted including streaming clients, and Plex would get a very bad name from the crap that most would put out.
