I was wondering if anyone knows if there’s a way to use video as a fanart background. Like, when you bring up the screen for a movie, it plays the video behind the scenes. I’ve got a movie where I’ve extracted the blu-ray menu background and I thought it’d be cool to use that as as the background rather than just a static image. Anyone know if there’s a way to do that or if that’s not possible? If it is possible, is there a recommended format and way of naming the file that will make it work?

a variation on that, that would also be cool; play the trailer (if/when available/enabled) on the fanart background.

No, that is not supported.
too bad GIF’s can’t be used as posters/backgrounds
