Is there any ability to even out volume across songs in a playlist?

I’m using the Plex Player for Windows and Server is also on Windows.

When I play a number of music tracks from a playlist, I have the annoyance that some songs play at a much louder volume than others resulting in me constantly having to tweak volume up and down.

Does Plex have any ability to even out the volume in different tracks? I know that a number of other players have this ability, but if it’s present in Plex I’m missing where to set this.

Not that I know of. I could be wrong… I got so tired of volume being all over the place with my media the only thing that works for me is a Vizio sound bar with Truvolume enabled. Everything I play now is the same volume level…

I have had similar problems with audio files in both Plex and Emby and neither has so far offered any fix at all. The amazing thing it neither Plex or Emby have much of any problem with the audio of video filed. Maybe the video files are better at being uniform in their audio levels?

My final solution is to use MediaMonkey for all my audio files both music and audiobooks. That also allows me to easily have a setup where the audio is sent throughout my home and I can control the playback from anywhere. So when I get up to do something and pause the video that is playing I can simply start MediaMonkey with a keypress on one of the keyboards I have around the house or simply say “Alexa book” and whatever audio book I have set up will start or resume playing. The same actions will also pause MediaMonkey. I even have playlists for playback and therefor I do not have to do anything on the MediaMonkey computer more often than weekly or monthly.

I do wish either Plex or Emby could work the way I need as it would be more convenient. But the solution I have works great and I do not “need” either Plex or Emby to work correctly and with even volume but it would make maintenance easier.

In spite of the fact that Plex pretty much originated as an audio player it is just not something they do well.

On desktop computers, only Plexamp has this ability.

It requires that:

  1. the server has already performed loudness analysis of your music library
  2. you have not created your own “albums” by combining tracks from different sources. Because these tracks are very likely mastered to different loudness levels. And Plex is using the overall loudness of a whole album to adjust all of its tracks.

Thanks for the information. That’s very helpful.
