Is this laptop good enough for a Plex server?

Hello everyone,
so I have this laptop lying around it’s got a few upgrades 8GB of RAM, 2 TB HDD, I plan on changing out the wifi card to get 5 GHz or just getting a network adapter. The server won’t be much more than my Fire Stick and maybe my girlfriend’s house using it.

For storage I was planning on leaving this plugged in along with the laptop or finding one equivalent that can fit a 3.5 HDD instead of this one which can only fit 2.5 HDD’s also would I be better off with a NAS in this case ?

Lastly, is there a way to transfer things over wifi to that laptop from say my desktop ? like a way to make a server to send the stuff over there ? is this a good idea for a small plex server or will I see bottlenecks ?

you should simply try it.

how long it will last will be entirely dependent on how quickly your library expands.

you are almost always better off with a nas that has expandable storage.

additionally, there are nas’s that have sufficient cpu/gpu/ram to function as a pretty great plex server directly on the nas (no need for laptop).

Thank you my issue has been solved,…
