KDE Connect Plexamp music control broken since 3.4.1

Ever since the Plexamp 3.4.1 update (running the appimage on Ubuntu 20.10), KDE Connect is unable to skip tracks, and cannot resume playback from pause. All I am now able to do is pause a currently playing track. After doing so it fails to have any impact when I use the play button on my phone.

This worked perfectly fine previously (I believe under 3.4.0) and KDE Connect still controls media playback perfectly well for other players on my system (Spotify snap, Youtube in Brave, etc), so I must assume it’s a result of a change to Plexamp.

Any ideas?

Just grabbed the 3.4.0 AppImage and replaced my current one. Can confirm that the break occurs with 3.4.1, with 3.4.0 working fine with KDE Connect. Think I’ll disable auto-update and stick with 3.4.0 for now.

Scratch that idea. Is there a way to disable auto-updates?..

Wait there’s auto-updates?

The AppImage just auto-updated itself from 3.4.0 to 3.4.1 for me, somewhat annoyingly.

there were literally zero changes in Linux integration with dbus/mpris in between those two versions

I’m at a loss. Unless I’m missing a troubleshooting step it seems to point to something between the two versions that’s resulting in this change in behaviour. I grabbed the 3.4.0 appimage and all worked as expected, however when running the 3.4.1 appimage it was showing the issues explained above. No other changes in the system between the two scenarios, tried both within minutes of each other.

i believe you; just don’t have an explanation. do you see any log differences between the two (on console)?

e.g. Linux: Registering MPRIS service and Linux: Error registering media services...

The weird thing is that MPRIS seemed to still work fine. The media playback was still detected by Gnome, and keyboard media keys still worked. What’s even weirder is it seems to be functional again now, despite me making no changes to the system. All I did was run it via terminal to check any output, saw no relevant errors, and was back to expected functionality. Closed it and re-ran from my .desktop shortcut and all is back and functional again.

thankfully 2021 is the year of linux on the desktop :grimacing:
