Thanks and love the Auto-Sync Subtitles but what languages are supported in Auto-Sync Subtitles?
The support article doesn’t mention this is a language specific feature. It appears they’re only focusing on recognizing voices in the audio track, not translating/matching the content of what’s said to the text of your srt files.
Ok and thanks for the replay.
Language isn’t really a consideration here.
As long as the timing of the voice and the subtitles are aligned well enough it will work with any language.
Not every subtitle refers to dialogue/voice. There are subtitles that translate signs and labels. What about that? Especially when such subtitles are close in time to voice-related subtitles?
Has anyone tried it with subtitles in another language to see if it really works with subtitles in all languages?
What a subtitle syncer does is it tries to match the subtitle track and audio track together. It works with averages because there are some audio parts that are detected as dialogue when it’s not, and vice versa. All that is taken into account in determining whether enough of a pattern exists to determine whether the subtitle file matches the audio track.
Just as they said, it detects voices. It doesn’t matter what language is spoken. Human voices exist in a known frequency range. This is why we can remove vocals from a song.
For those of you who have used this feature, how well does it work?
Doesn’t work at all for me.
It’s probably either because
- subtitle file is not a match (director’s/extended)
- subtitle file is off by more than 30 seconds
- subtitle file is too fast/too slow
- subtitle file is corrupt/garbled/improperly formatted
- plex has not performed audio analysis for that video file
For that last one, does Plex tell you that it doesn’t have the data it needs to perform syncing? If you have a large library, analysis is gonna take days/weeks because the process is even more taxing than detecting intros/outros because instead of just the beginning and end of the file, syncing requires doing audio analysis for the whole file.
Analysis is complete, Auto-sync subtitles box is checked during playback, subtitle file is standard format and not corrupt, same speed as audio, less than 30 seconds off.
One of my troubleshooting steps used an external .srt that was timed perfectly and I just shifted the timings 2sec in SubtitleEdit to force them out of sync. Plex did not adjust. Also does not work for on-demand subs. Latest Windows PMS, Windows player, Fire TV (Android) player.
That’s shocking. I hope one of the devs working on the auto-sync sees this and asks for the video and subtitle files so they can figure out what’s wrong. Two seconds off should be easy for an auto-syncer.
If you could provide some samples it would appreciated (feel free to DM me)
Also your server logs will show some more detail the first time you attempt a playback with a new subtitle, look for the SubtitleScore lines in the log - they will look like this:

I saw people on Reddit saying the same thing. I was about to leave Infuse for good and subscribe to Plex Pass just because of the auto-sync, but now I think I’ll wait…
Any news on this? Does auto-sync subs work or not?
