Last.fm not scrobbling correctly?

I am compatible. last.fm says LOW, but I’m not going to complain about whom we are most compatible with, The Cure is my favorite group by far.

Sorry for the trouble, I love Last.FM as much as you do, I can assure you. Anyone compatible with me?

Pretty low compatibility with you two, but like @Kattacat said, I’m not going to complain. One thing we can agree on, is our immense love for music (and Plex)! B)

Testing what happens if I play it over and over …

The Cure — The Funeral Party 2 minutes ago
The Cure — Other Voices 12 minutes ago
The Cure — The Funeral Party 44 minutes ago

That’s all that has scrobbled for me using PlexAmp on my actual server pc just a bit ago, I’m on the second play through of The Cure’s Faith album, and it’s not liking much of it. Only 2 songs so far, and one being the same song 5th on the album, The Funeral Party. Other Voices is the 3rd song.

Awhile ago I had tried different albums, artists, radio, and none of it scrobbled at all. I have the same problem in the Plex Media Server on my server PC or on my Android tablet with the Plex App. It wasn’t THIS bad these past three months (started with Plex in January) but it certainly is most definitely worse now, since PMS Version 1.12.2.4929 & the one before.

Spotty was more like it before, but now it’s immense swaths of play that don’t scrobble.

As I’ve been writing the above I let the music keep playing and this song, the 7th track, scrobbled.

The Cure — The Drowning Man More 4 minutes ago

So two full plays of the same album and I got three songs scrobbled, and one twice.

I’m going to keep at it, but will not keep posting, just wanted to get this test posted for now.

Hi Everyone,

We’ve been investigating this issue since yesterday, but it’s probably worth providing a little context and background on how things work.

When you’ve enable the Last.fm (LFM) integration on your Plex account, then whenever you play content from a music library, that Plex Media Server will submit the scrobble (to LFM) through our plex.tv API. LFM’s side of their scrobble API has historically been unreliable as far as accepting and successfully completing scrobbles goes, so we set things up so that we would re-try a scrobble after a while if our attempt to send it to LFM failed.

Over time (often when working to optimize our background job system), we’ve made adjustments to how often and how many times failed scrobbles will be retried. Our theory for the issue right now is that we may have been too aggressive with some of these changes and that, in some cases, we’re giving up on scrobbles too quickly and before they can be completed successfully in retries.

We’re going to increase how many retries are allowed and add some additional tracking to help further investigate things. We can’t say for sure quite when those changes will get deployed, but we hope to be able to do so fairly soon.

Thanks for your patience as we continue to investigate!

Very high compatibility with leafmuncher.
High compatibility with CrazyMaisy (love The Cure and Yes),
Low compatibility with standsforgotten (though we both listen to Brand New and Sigur Ros).

Oh boy, I started listening to U2 - The Joshua Tree on Plex Media Player (on my Plex server pc) and so far, fingers crossed, the first three tracks have scrobbled, which is the best outcome in weeks and weeks!

Just a little while ago I listened to a seven track EP… and every single track scrobbled correctly! :o

About to start jammin’ some more tunes, we’ll see what happens!

Ends up that my first album I played a bit ago missed the 6th and 11th tracks but got everything else.

I’m listening to a Cure playlist (various songs) and it’s missed a few tracks but gotten MOST and even though it’s not perfect, at least MOST is going through, and sometimes everything will then, so … practically perfect would be much preferred, it’s not there yet, but closer.

I switched back to amarok (on linux) which scrobbles to last.fm accurately. Wonder why the Plex engineers can’t just look at the amarok last.fm scrobbler source code and figure out what the amarok people are doing (correctly).

I used Spotify Premium a few years ago, and then switched to Google Family plan later, that’s where my uploaded music has been for a long time, and it works well enough for me

Spotify was flaky in comparison for me, but I do have a long playlist on my account there (for Alternative stuff I don’t own all of) and recently they added server side Last.fm scrobbling, so I looked at it today … in one’s account go to settings, and hit a button that takes you to your last.fm settings, Applications tab there’s a button there to press to allow scrobblng spotify. And it works.

Web or any player, yes even consoles.

All I want is to be able to do that with my stuff in Plex on any platform. No other freaking layers of programs I don’t like to use (WMP, Amarok, MediaMonkey, etc.) which is why I am using Plex now …

A buddy gave me an idea while this bug gets figured out; wonder if i/we can hack together something to have the scrobbling done on the PlexPy/Tautulli side of things.

I have Plex Media Player 64bit open usually, either playing via it, or PlexAmp on the same computer as the Plex Media Server runs.

In Status/Alterts there is always information about what’s going on, and every track I play shows up nicely there, but in the logs, searching “scrobble” most of the time it’s a “scrobble: 0” entry but I’m not trying to understand the logs at all, just a cursory look and the 0 and 1 either/or is not scrobbled or it did scrobble.

I had tried scrobbling with both Plex Media Player and PlexAmp this morning. Restarted the server a couple of times too.

I gave up because a track would scrobble, then two or three or more wouldn’t, then a couple, then no more… it was ongoing in a cycle like that, nothing absolutely consistent though.

I stopped listening to music for a few hours, then decided to restart the server and try listening in Plex Media Player, and what do you know, First track scrobbled right as soon as it should have, then the next three tracks also … but then, it skipped 5 tracks … working on the next, we’ll see in a minute … ah this one scrobbled. So it’s really great, then worse, then … not worth the trouble of playing in Plex still.

I’m experiencing this issue and looking forward to the resolution. I’m happy I found this thread before going too far down the proverbial troubleshooting rabbit hole.

Currently on track eight of twelve and not a single track has been recorded by lastfm. I feel like its performance has gotten worse since I first reported this issue :’(

Scrobbling still works fine via my 12+ year old Winamp plugin, hits every track 100% of the time.

I use Google Chrome with Google Play Music and a scrobbler in the browser, that works OK, mostly perfect.

Android Last.fm Simple Scrobbler works well, threw a login token error earlier today, but connected when I put my password in the app again, it was very odd though. Important for this app is that it caches until it submits if you want it to and therefore never misses a scrobble. – if only Plex on my phone could scrobble with this app, or cache scrobbles in the server at the least. Sigh–

I played some music in Plex Media Player yesterday and gave up since nothing scrobbled at all.

Just installed version 1.12.3.4947 of de PMS and no fix.
Track 1 scrobbled, but the second and third did not.

For now I switched back to good old Winamp + Last.fm on my PC and n7player + Simple Last.fm scrobbler on Android.

Still hoping this will be fixed soon.

PlexPass for Roku checking in here. Same as WalterB. First track sometimes scrobbles, but the rest do not (no matter how many tracks I play afterward).

Scrobbling is Plex.tv server side, the fix will be on that side, whenever it happens … if it happens … etc.

Just to add a “me to” to this thread. It’s about as constant at posting as the English weather. I have just played 9 songs in a row and not a single one has been posted on Last FM. It sSeems strange that the Last FM app on Mac OS scobbles 100% when played in iTunes. It’s hard to believe their app is using a different API to what third parties have access to so hard to understand why Plex has such trouble processing the plays.

only about 20% of my track plays are getting scrobbled these days.
