Latest Plex HTPC Windows Update. "Unexpected Playback Error"

Anarchy doesn’t install on virtualbox. Keeps getting an virtualbox guest error when running pacman -Syu. The base Arch Linux is basically a manual install process that I just don’t feel like doing within virtual box. I think I will try to find an existing virtualbox arch vdi.

What error did you get? If you have the issue “temporarily unavailable” - you need to make sure the arch vm has gotten an IP (ip a). This can sometimes take a while or you need to manually initiate a DHCP checkup.

I think the guest-additions needs to be manually installed or the network needs to be set up to talk to virtualbox. I found that Arch Linux has a guided install mode which almost gets me through the install process but still fails at the end. I got an old Arch distro to install but it was missing so many packages/updates that it took about 10 minutes to update which then failed because the keys were wrong or more likely out of date.

I’ve got a couple of other ideas to try but not with Anarchy or base Arch Linux.

I found a Turkish Arch distro and I get much further with this one. I get to ninja mpv. But then see attached for the error.

Without the exact contents of the error-out.log I can not help you…

I would also recommend you start with the original repo first (GitHub - shinchiro/mpv-winbuild-cmake: CMake-based MinGW-w64 Cross Toolchain) and have a look if this one is working for you. If you experience building issues there as well, the best way to get it fixed is by opening an issue in that github repo. Although I can certainly assure you that they won´t debug a “Turkish arch distro” nor will I…

I have no idea where the problem with AnarchyInstaller is on your side… I deployed it so many times in a virtualbox environment, without any problems…

Digging through arch “is painful” - I know - but when it’s set up - it works. As said AnarchyInstaller is a good and simple way to start. So I would like you to reinvestigate installing Arch through the official installer or AnarchyInstaller. Then we can talk further. Until then I´m not willing to spend my time debugging some dubious distro, when I know with an official arch install it’s working. sorry

Hi.
It’s not a dubious distro lol, apparently it’s well known. The install and everything is in English. I’m just trying different distros. I got quite far running it on Windows under msys but that fails at a different point.

SUCCESS!

Just built mpv using EndeavourOS. I should have built plex-ntruehd but since I built the plain one first I just run it again with the tags.

Good to hear!

Now the only problem I have is getting the mpv-2.dll off the virtual client. As usual neither drag and drop or shared folders is working for me. I think I’ve only ever had this working once on Ubuntu on a different machine.

I use Filezilla to do this. This requires a working openssh server running on that vm.

Just sorted it. Did some testing and the issue is not vbox sharing but something somewhere is blocking the dll. Not my anti-virus (according to logs) but maybe something built into Virtualbox. Anyway mpv compilation here is much, much quicker than the Windows environment which is probably because I’m just connected to your GITs so this will be my primary mpv build option from now on.

Thanks again (again, again)
