Latest PMS download identified as a virus threat

I have been unable to download the latest server update for my DS1019+ because Windows Defender deletes the spk file as soon as it arrives. While I can probably find a way to whitelist the file, I am concerned because this is the first and only time that the Plex update has triggered any of my anti-malware defenses, and maybe there really is a problem.

The download is:
PlexMediaServer-1.40.1.8173-3e92df2db-x86_64_DSM6.spk

I’ve tried multiple browsers and multiple machines. The file is flagged and deleted every time.

Has anybody else seen this?

cheers

Some folks have seen this internally today and are looking into it. Thanks for report.

It is a false positive. Plex is working with Microsoft on it.

Update your virus definitions and you should be able to download the file.

My virus definitions are v1.407.297.0.

I can download the Intel 64 bit build of 1.40.1.8173, both DSM 6 & 7 versions.

This should be resolved. Plex worked with Microsoft to eliminate the false positives.

I updated Defender. Current Security intelligence version is 1.407.367.0.

I downloaded all five builds for both DSM 6 & DSM 7 versions of 1.40.0.7998 and 1.40.1.8173.

None were flagged by Defender.

File successfully downloaded. The browser marked it as unsafe but gave me an option to keep it. Previously Defender just nuked it.

Thanks.

Is this likely to be a recurring issue?

Hope not. I do not remember it happening before.

Downloading with latest Chrome broswer (122.0.6261.129), and it still reports virus and refuse to save it in Windows.

Virus definition version?

Which build did you download? DSM 7 /ARMv8, etc.
