Library: Disable Thumbnails

Request:
This would be a library setting when you’re adding or editing libraries.

  • Disable Thumbnails. Maybe have a specific library type that’s dedicated to sports where no thumbnails would be generated.

Problem:
If you have any sport themed library, having a video thumbnail that’s grabbed from the video file itself will include spoilers. Spoilers could be winner of fight, results of event, team scores, time of round. Anything could be a spoiler. Currently there is no way of turning off thumbnails.

Work around:
Manual work or scripting outside of plex to insert a picture named the same as the video file as to override the default thumbnail generation. This seems so over the top workaround vs a simple disable setting inside plex.

It’s been a while since this FR was filed, but it’s still an issue.

A workaround could be grabbing a thumbnail from the first few minutes of the video. At least then the chance for spoilers is much lower.
