Hi guys, sorry for the delay. Usually to make Lightpack's software work with XBMC ports we're applying patches for XBMC files. Now, there are many versions of Plex for different platforms, and as far as we know currently RaspPlex isn't patchable (here's a link to original forum with problem description http://forums.plexapp.com/index.php/topic/70192-ambilight-for-rasplex/#entry422112).
As to Plex on Windows, Prismatik doesn't support hooking in 64bit applications so it doesn't work with Plex right now. It would be great if we could get average colors of certain fragments via some API, so it could work in a platform-independent way (i.e. to have some kind of cross-platform interface). And even if we were able to implement 64bit hooking, which is not a proper solution in my opinion anyway, there are stil RPi, Linux and Mac OS X versions in the line for a thorough check-up and inventing a solution for every each of different-platformed Plex is too much of a geeky way. And sadly it requires too much of time resources as well, which is a deficite having our main application development on my shoulders. But as you know, Lightpack is an open-source project, so if anyone is willing to help — he's only welcome to. As to our team, we're planning to work on this issue after we reach our priority goals.
Thanks for the info;
Does Prismatik work on OS X with the 64 bit Plex application?
Both yes and no. PHT might be 64 bit only when it is released for both Windows and OSX, but that we do not know for sure. Tobias has not yet decided on that as far as I know.
But if they are patching XBMC 12.X (as it look like) there should be nothing else besides 64 bit that would cause an issue. To the best of my knowledge. Only timsat (and the rest of his crew) can know for sure. When they can get their hand on PHT we will know for sure.
Happy Days! If Tim has it working for PMC and XBMC, I can only speculate that PHT would work… Lets hope! Thanks to all for the contributions as I think this could be a great way to further the already amazing Plex experience!

I do suspect that it is PHT he meant actually as that is what I sent to him a few days ago.
Thanks Atrus for lending a hand! It’s great to part of a community that is so supportive of their product whether they had a hand in making it or just a hand in trying to make it better!
So I got my LightPack (clone, with 90 LED's). It should be identical to the official LightPack, since the hardware board is opensource, as is the software.
To make a long story short, it works just fine with the latest PHT and the latest official LightPack software (Prismatik).
Prismatik uses ca. 20% CPU on my i5 Mac Mini, and the Ambilight effect is very cool when watching movies :)

where did you get this from?
i was too late to buy it via kickstarter..

eBay - it appears to be a 1:1 clone, and I could get 90 LED's (it's less with the official LightPack, unless you buy more units and use them together).
Only PHT at this point though? I havent delved into PHT in a while as it was buggy for me on my Mac Mini. Is it skinable yet? Thats another reason I havent gone to PHT. If I change the skin from Refocus, my wife will be lost and my head will be on the chopping block!
I have a question which im not 100% on. Will lightpack ever be able to run server side? My current setup is Mac mini > cat 5 through house roof to switch > roku. I am going to be forced to run my Mac in my lounge room for the foreseeable future to use lightpack or will a plugin such as boblight from xbmc work with lightpack?
bump - curious to know if anyone else has gotten Lightpack to work any further with Plex?
I haven't even received mine yet. If there was a plugin that could talk to the server and fetch the indexed files to get the colour of what you are currently watching without requiring a PC or android device that would be awesome.
I got in on it pretty early, they said my batch would ship on christmas. I'll be playing with it plenty. Software engineer by trade, so I'll put some effort into making it work with my roku/plexapp connected home theater. I had hoped they would just slap in a HDMI passthru, even if it killed the HDCP chain. Will reply in this thread on my efforts (free time willing...).
Are the Lightpack clones essentially the same as the original Lightpack? i.e. software, firmware etc.
My understanding is yes, everything is (or will be) the same, even down to the PCB.
