Limit user to a device?

Can I limit a managed user account to only be used on a specific device?

I have limited certain libraries to certain users, but there’s nothing to stop users switching to another user. I want user X to only work on device Y so I can control the libraries that device can access, and prevent them from switching users.

Is this possible?

No. The whole point of managed users is so they can switch users. If you don’t want that, create a regular user then log into that device with that user. Of course, if the person using the device knows other Plex logins, they could change the user by signing out and back in to the other account, but that’s not something Plex could stop.

If the other accounts have PINs on them the managed user cannot switch

I think its interesting that Plex state ‘The administrator for a Plex Home has the ability to create Managed Users within that home. These are often used by parents to create an account for their children, for instance.’

However, if anyone can switch between users this seems somewhat redundant, especially for children.

Ideally I’d like to be able to associate a user with a device so that a device i.e. the Fire Stick in the children’s bedroom, automatically* logs in as the children’s user account and doesn’t allow them to switch to other managed users.

*I’m using Amazon Fire Sticks and the new Plex app only lets you automatically login as the main Plex Pass user now :frowning: but you get my point.

Thanks for this, the PIN may be my only option to limit users from switching to other accounts, but it would be better if I could manage this from the server so they don’t have to enter a pin every time.

The whole idea of Plex Home was for faster switching between users in a home, so you didn’t need to have to enter a username/password or go through the linking procedure for each user. If you don’t want the user to switch, this isn’t the right feature.

Just create a regular Plex account. Then link the Fire Stick to that account. Now they can’t switch users.

If you go this route, there is an option under the account settings in the app to automatically log in. It will then use the last user account so your kids won’t need their PIN unless they try to change users.
