What’s happened on my end, which surprised me, is I wasn’t seeing other changes which had been approved two weeks ago and should already be in the code.
I’ve messaged the team, pointing out the discrepancy , and asking them to help me resolve where it went. It’s probably a simple error to correct. (but that’s why i test a lot before releasing into production)

Any normal linux will show you the jobs the shell has in the background
Just kill %x (where x is the job number) will stop that background task.

I have to agree with @ChuckPa on this one, the general rule of thumb with Debian (and Ubuntu) upgrades is, your allowed one dist-upgrade and then its better to lay down a fresh OS for your next upgrade.
