Local Metadata Ignored in Music Library

I had to set up my music library again and it appears to be ignoring “prefer local metadata”, something it did not seem to be doing before. These are my settings:

My files are all tagged from Musicbrainz so it is not taking the metadata from there.

Here is the main issue. It seems to be taking album artists who recorded under different variations of their name and grouping them together.

Neil Young is grouped under Neil Young & Crazy Horse, whether it the albums are by Neil Young & Crazy Horse or not. There are some similar examples with Paul McCartney and Wings (all under Wings). Some John Lennon under John Lennon & Yoko Ono and some not etc.

Here is a sample Neil Young tag for After the Gold Rush, as it is tagged:

neilyoung

This is now it appears in Plex:

nych

Has anyone come across something similar? There is no way around it apart from unmatching the metadata but then I lost all of the associated info. It’s not a deal breaker, but it is very annoying.

How is the folder structure?

https://musicbrainz.org/search?query=neil+young+%26+crazy+horse&type=artist&limit=25&method=indexed
There is no artist listed as “Neil Young & Crazy Horse” on Musicbrainz.
So what may likely happen is that both “Neil Young” and “Neil Young & Crazy Horse” are matched to the same artist ID. Which then causes them to get merged in Plex.

If you have separate artist folders for the two, you can use “Split” at the artist level to separate them. Then Unmatch “Neil Young & Crazy Horse”.

Thanks for the reply.

Folder structure is Sort Album Artist\Album,,
So separate folders for NY and NYCH. I’ll try retagging them through Picard just to double check. If not I’ll do manual split and unmatch.
