Local Music Library Related Question

Hi There,

I have 3 questions about adding my local music library to Plex Music Library:

1 - When adding and scanning my local music library does Plex make any permanent changes such as changing or updating my music files tags or names or folder structure?

2 - If all my music files have proper tags will Plex be able to scan, add & organise them like that or do all albums and artists need to be matched to some online database for the files to be properly sorted like adding Movies or TV Shows?

3 - Where is all the Plex Library Metadata saved on my local computer. I have a MAC mini and external hard drive as my media server.

Plex does not touch your files. They stay as they are.

You can opt for both. If your files all have complete and accurate embedded metadata, Plex will use this information. You can also tell Plex to find additional metadata about your music, but this will indeed require ‘matching’ it to some online database.

If you create a music library and set its ‘Agent’ to ‘Personal Media Artists’, Plex will only use what it can deduct from your files’ embedded metadata and their file names.

Like all other Plex metadata in the Plex data folder.
