Does this support aTV2/3 via PlexConnect?

Hey Wahlman.j,

Nice to hear from you, I see your OpenPlex still piggy backing on PlexConnect

To be honest, I stopped using the Apple TV a while ago, I think it was when Plexify ceased to being developed or a bit after that. Use the Chromecast nowadays. So really no way for me to check if Lock for Plex works via PlexConnect.

I did have a user let me know that it did not work a while ago though, however there was no way for me to verify or even consider fixing anything since the plugin works everywhere else and I took it to be one of those roadmap things PlexConnect would look into.

Lock for Plex should ideally work on the ATV3 though with the official Plex app.

I’m guessing you already know the answer to your question since you tinker with PlexConnect and use it so wondering…

It particularly works on the aTV2/3 not sure about the 4. I can see the icons lock and unlock but when I select any of the icons it says the hijack is unavailable. What needs to be fixed the channel or plexconnect or both?

Sorry, I’m finally looking to update my Lock for plex.

I have removed the pin but i don’t get the part in the FAQ about ‘disable users’.
How do i do that?

Yeah, sorry about that mixup I meant it Lock for Plex should work with the ATV4 that has the official Plex app.
I think it would be difficult for PlexConnect to be fixed in this regard from what I remember, PlexConnect is running as a server in parallel to PMS. It displays and saves data via XML. I am unable to comment on PlexConnect and its capabilities. Lock for Plex currently(as far as I know) can be used with all official clients of PMS and some unofficial ones. Best to use your smartphone (iOS or Android) to lock/unlock.

How do i do that?

Temporarily disable the password PIN for users in PMS to use that particular method of connecting to PMS or use another method to connect

Guys, I rarely check the forums, pl. do get in touch with me either via the Lock for Plex FAQ section or @lockforplex via twitter.

Sorry i don’t have twitter and you can’t get in touch via FAQ unless you have the paid version.

I have disabled the password pin as per instructions.
I have tried all 3 options to connect and all say they can’t connect.

Thats why i asked what you meant in the faq by 'disable users;?

I didn’t read thru the whole topic so I hope this wasn’t asked prior. I was wondering if you were going to or if its possible to choose which library section(s) to hide or unhide from the channel itself…

Thank you for pointing that out, fixed the wording, pl. use the latest Lock for Plex version (1.5.8.9) and suggest using the Sign-in method after setting the Network Security to “Preferred”, It was a chrome bug that did not allow insecure connections for the old sign-in method. Its the same dialog users get when using Plex/Web in Chrome when Network Security is set to Required. User has to then click on advanced and allow to proceed to Plex/Web, then the Plex Sign-in in Lock for Plex would work. Sheesh! Anyway changed things now!

I don’t use this forum as my initial ID, which you see I used to create the OP was hacked and deleted and I could not get anyone to help me recover it, bummer! So just created a new ID to use this as a place to post updates. Twitter is free and messaging me via twitter is open so you don’t even need to follow me. Give it a try! @lockforplex

Hope this helps!

Guys, don’t use/actively check this forum anymore!

Best to hit me up via twitter @ tomatosmoothie

Thank you!

So what’s happening with Lock for Plex? Seems to be gone now.

Last cached twitter post from the deleted @tomatosmoothie twitter account says: RIP

Will a non-Chrome Lock for Plex option come out later? Does anyone else make something like this? (similar?)

Chromium Blog: From Chrome Apps to the Web

Quite perceptive of you =D . Yes, Lock for Plex still works. You can still buy and use it via the Chrome Web Store, for now. Yes, Google is informing all developers to move from Google Chrome to the web (Chromium Blog: From Chrome Apps to the Web) from the Chrome webstore developers console.

The Google Chrome “Plex Web Launcher” was RIP because it just does not make sense anymore. Andromeda or whatever Google calls their new Android injected Chromebook will have no place for it. It was a simple app to launch Plex Web without having to sign into Plex.

I am in the process of migrating my apps to the web, the last RIP you may have seen was for another app called “Home Recipe Manager” I have migrated it from a chrome app to a completely free web app (homerecipemanager.com) with the option of letting people buy me a coffee =D

It will take time but in the coming year(2017) I will migrate the other two apps I have which many people have paid for to completely free apps, I have other commitments at the moment so cannot give you an ETA on it. I will however post an update here in this forum/thread.

I used twitter to broadcast updates for the Chrome apps and it does not make any sense anymore to do so, I will now be sharing release information within the web apps itself. Ways to get in touch with me will be updated via the FAQ of each app.

I wish I could spend time at the moment to update the Chrome apps to be free and remove the redundant methods of communicating with me via twitter. Again, it’s just a waste of time. I’d rather spend the limited time I have to fix up apps like homerecipemanager.com to work better with service workers for the web.

It was nice to hear from someone using/wanting to use the lock for plex app. It is exciting to move away from Google frameworks that in my personal opinion are always evolving and will take years to bank on/stabilize in comparison to Apple(developers perspective).

Regards,
Mark
