Loud revving fan when streaming with plex

Hi there

I just stated using plex when plexconnect was released for appletv3. It truly is the best media server around. I am having one issue though that I cannot seem to find the answer any where.

When I stream over my network, to either my ps3 or appletv through plex, a fan in my pc starts going crazy. It sounds like a car revving its engine or a shop vac. And it’s intermittent. Very annoying.

I’ve now replaced my CPU heatsink and my power supply. I’ve also removed the video card.

But I’m still getting the revving.

Here’s the thing though, if I use a different media server, such as universal media server, there is no loud fans or revving. This leads me to think that plex and my computer aren’t mixing well together.

Has anyone encountered this issue before? Is my computer too slow for plex?

Here’s my specs:

AMD Athlon x4 2.8 ghz

12 gb DDR3

Windows 7

Wired network

Any assistance would be great. I love the way plex runs on my appletv. I’ve now cut my cable!

Thanks

Run a CPU stress test using cpuburn, prime95 or whatever your prefer. This will replicate the scenario of PMS using the CPU and stressing your system.

Then track down which fan is loud, and replace it.

Thanks. I’ve already ran stress tests. My CPU fan on the heatsink was going nuts. So I replaced the heatsink but it still revs up real loud when streaming through PMS. Could this maybe be a problem with the mobo?

Did you replace the fan as well? If not see if you can get another one which  is not so loud.

Monitor your CPU temps while you are streaming/stress testing CPU and see what is happening.

I also get fans the rev on maximum rpm when plex is streaming, not when playing locally in plex though. And this has nothing to do with the physical fan. Its something with plex using cpu or what ever wrong. I can play real graphic intense games for instance without the fan even coming close to the speeds that plex streaming uses.

same here, did you find a fix? or an explanation at least?

got it, thanks
