Hey Folks.
Currently run an old raspberry pi as my music server and as its arm no sonic analysis .
Its runs ok biggest plus is low power consumption .3 - 5 w
But Sonic analysis looks amazing so would love to play with it.
So i was wondering any ideas for a low powered setup ?
Its music only no movies , headless and should startup when power kicks in as its connected to smartplug. (think thats it)
Thanks
The Intel N100 CPU has a TDP of 6w: https://ark.intel.com/content/www/us/en/ark/products/231803/intel-processor-n100-6m-cache-up-to-3-40-ghz.html
There are many N100 systems available. Load Linux on it and you’re good to go.
You can have multiple Plex servers on your account. You could load PMS on a PC to get a feel for how sonic analysis works before buying new hardware.
Note: Simply killing power is NOT a good way to shutdown a server. Doing so is begging for database corruption, which will prevent Plex Media Server from working properly. You need to perform a graceful shutdown.
Cheers have seen few mention the n100 , will have to delve deeper
My library is very big so would take a while to run sonic alalysis so if i go in i go in lol although great idea testing on my pc.
The smart plug is for when i remote shutdown the pi would never pull the plug on the wee thing
Might I suggest:
No on the smartplug.
Linux supports remote shutdown and Wake-on-LAN (works great)
Put the machine on a UPS
doing the math, 6 watts (let’s assume 10 for math) at 0.50 USD per kwh,
will require 100 hours (4.17 days) per kwh.
I wish I could “smart plug” my hot water heater!
Oh ment to explain the smartplug is only used after pi has shout down correctly
Pi auto shuts down at 11 , smart plug turns off at 11:30
yeah was considering linux as is lighter .
I can send you my smart plug for your water heater lol
If we put 2 together, will I get 240 VAC ?
( My machines poweroff when done but are all set for WOL as needed )
Chain some smart plugs together and they will make you eledtricity … profit …lol
