Sometimes I need to restart or shutdown my computer while a user is streaming from my server. Unfortunatly at the moment it’s running on my personal daily driver computer as my external server broke down.
What I’d love to do is issue a warning message to users before either terminating their stream with a message or rather just shutting down my computer altogether and have them run into endless buffer issue / broken plex page. This is so useful so they know what’s going on and I don’t get any sms about “the Plex server isn’t working”.
Maybe it could be like a pop up they need to close or hit “OK” to remove it from the screen as an acknowledgement or something. Whatever. Something like that would be useful.
And before I get a slew of people crapping on this idea as that tends to happen to me.

You should already be able to send users a notification if you actively stop their streams from the now playing section of the server dashboard.
There’s an existing feature suggestion discussing an option to send messages/notifications about your server in general (e.g. upcoming maintenance, downtime info…). You might want to comment/vote in that thread in order to help us avoid distracting or cannibalizing votes.
I take it you also found the option to give users a message when terminating their streams via the now-playing dashboard? If do, I’ll close this suggestion.
I already knew about it, I just think it could be better… or different.
Messaging users as it terminates is not as nice / clean as a warning before hand so they get a heads up that the server will go down at ____ PST time or something like that. Just so they’re aware.
Maybe it’s a personal preference but I prefer my server players to not feel “intrusion” as they watch thier films. Like a sense of privacy, so having my username show up as the one who sent the message can also be a bit much when terminating the stream… There should be an anonymous way to do that. I’m spit balling here, maybe worthy for another thread but there’s many days I need to restart the machine or unplug my router or whatever and feel guilty for terminating someone’s stream with such abruptness.
You’re sharing with family and friends… so they should already know it’s your server and it’s privately hosted… as a user I don’t have the same expectations towards a „service level“ when it comes to that.
That being said… in that case the linked suggestion is probably covering the kind of announcements or heads-up you’re looking for. In that case I’ll close this thread as a duplicate.
