Hi, my Plex has already scanned my movies, i've just added this plugin to read my NFO Plot/Summary, do I need to do a full rescan?
You need to do a Scan, if not updated then a full rescan, if again not updated you may need to remake your section with this scanner as the default.
Don't forget to make it work together with local media.
I thought this agent was going to help me out quite a bit. I want Plex to order the episodes of the show Babylon 5 per the order listed here: http://www.midwinter.com/lurk/countries/master/eplist.html
Without using this metadata agent I am able to configure Plex to read the episodes. Depending on how I name the episodes I can have PMS *either* properly identify all episodes, *or* have the episodes in the proper order per the above link. I cannot do both.
My attempted solution was to load up the show in XBMC using the properly named and identifiable order per TVDB. I then did a library export to NFO files in XBMC. Next I manually edited each NFO file to change the and tags in the NFO files to match the order I desired. Finally I created a new TV section setting the metadata agent to this "XBMC TV .nfo Importer" agent.
The result was Plex keeping the episodes in the seasons/order based on their file names rather than based on the content of the NFO files.
What am I doing wrong? I am getting really really frustrated with Plex and the inability to custom arrange the shows for easy viewing order. Please help.
If you want a custom order you need to do both. You have to rename the folders, episodes and corresponding .nfo,.jpg,... files to match the order you want. Then content of the nfo files needs to be edited to match this order.
After both of these are done, the agent should scan and add the files as you want.
Guys, long story short, new Samsung SmartTV & wanna use the plexApp.
I'm an XBMC user that's attempting to use locally stored metadata in each movies folder in Plex, and I just can't get it working at all. I use starkcovers to pretty up my movie covers, so they're named just "poster.png"...not moviename-poster.png, just "poster.png" in each movie folder. NFO files are named as moviename.nfo.
Currently I can't get any of this information importing into Plex to any degree using these plugins. Lil' help?
I create a new library, point it at my local storage, select XBMC .NFO Importer as the Agent and all I get is randomly generated thumbnail pictures and no synopsis.
I have tried tweaking the python file to look for .png rather than .jpg with limited success, but still doesn't display the correct poster.png image on scanning.
Any help appreciated
Cheers,
Mungo.
PS The com.plexapp.agents.localmedia.log file seems to pick up the poster image correctly:
"Local asset added: \\MHQ-MS01\MS01VOL1\MOVIES\HD\007 - Casino Royale [Uncut] (2006) (Bluray)\poster.png (274420a8d4a040a5684b171148589410)"
still doesn't display it until I actually select the movie.
**PPS** *Perhaps I was a little impatient. I copied a chunk of the 1st lot of movies that weren't scanning right into another test folder structure to test file permissions and although they all initially scanned in wrongly as described, once done - all information showed up successfully. Perhaps I need to let it load ALL my media and see how it goes.*
The scanning is a two step process. In the first step all movies will be added to the database. In the second step the metadata will be added for each movie. So yes, you should wait until the whole process is done.
If your png files are recognized, it is thanks to the (re?)addition of the localmedia agent support.
Support for png files makes sense however and should be added to the agents. I'll have a look at it if I have some freetime.
Thanks for the confirmation SirG - everything's now scanned in, in full and looking great B)
Cheers,
Mungo.
Hi,
I use XBMC NFO Importer for scan my media files. For each movies I have nfo file and tbn (poster).
I imported 2000 movies to Plex and it works very well.
But for maybe 10 or 20 movies I don't have the right poster (only an automatic thumbnail I suppose).
All these movies with these errors have posters in tbn and nfo files.
I don't know why it's different with these movies (the name is without strange letters).
Can you help me ?
Thanks a lot.

Name of the movie must be as the name of the nfo
There should not no special character in the nfo like accentuated letters or weird ' and " nor any &
and of course you must make sure that the structure of the nfo is correct (no missing < or > and have opening and closing tags).
Then it is better to name the poster with either the exact same name of the movie or just as poster.
If none of these work then maybe an example of a non working movie with naming of all files and the content of the nfo might help us help you.
I am using the current version from the repo and I'm not seeing season thumbnails or fanarts for tv series.

My naming scheme is:
/Seriesname
- Season 01
- tvshow.nfo
- banner.jpg
- fanart.jpg
- season01.tbn

EDIT: Nevermind there was some code that I simply needed to uncomment
I am however noticing an error in the log and don't know what to make of it

It seems Crazyrabbit disabled support for the pre Frodo file names in his changes to the scrapers. Please ask him to reenable it.
Have (both of) you enabled localmedia to co-operate with the XBMC agents ?
Thanks Crazyrabbit, so I enabled localmedia and the error seems to have disappeared. Not sure what that error impacts anyways, I was still able to scan successfully.
Now, just to solve the "Episode Duration: NaN min" thing.
I don't have Episode Duration in episodes tvshow.nfo file. Can the scanner pull it from the file's metadata and use it?
@crazyrabbit:
I merely stated the outcommented lines in the agents source. I did not try it myself. So I apologize for my, in retrospect, rude sounding post.
If the functionality is provided by the local media agent and not necessary in the xbmc agent itself anymore, that is no problem for me. IMHO it should be removed completely then (not only outcommented) and maybe replaced with a short comment explaining this.

That's what I thought of at first, but then I was like.. what if the localmedia changes, then I would have to rewrite instead of just uncomment.

As for the duration, the agent does get it from the episode nfo (if it's there), if it's not there it takes it from the series nfo and it's also taken from the analyze function of the server, so be sure to run that (Series > More > Analyze).
@crazyrabbit:
Well that makes sense. But using git it is quite easy to restore the code to a previous state if it should be necessary to reimplement the commented parts. Maybe leave one comment with the sha checksum of the state before the removal. It will greatly improve the readability of the code and make future changes more easy.
Hi, I recently upgraded this pulgin and my movies are no longer being scanned. I checked and XBMC .nfo Importer is seclected as the scanner agent. Reading the earlier responses I think it might be because I have poster in .tbn format or pre-Frodo format. I have a vast collection of over 4,000 movies so it would be nice to not rename all the poster files. Can someone provide me with advice as to how I can fix this issue?
Much appreciated.
My issue seems to have resolved itself.
@Enrique
Please go to Settings / Plex Media Server / Agents / Movies / XBMC .nfo Importer and check that you have enabled Local Media Assets (Movies) and drag it above the XMBX .nfo Importer.
For TVShows go to Settings / Plex Media Server / Agents / TVSchows / XBMC TV .nfo Importer and check that you have enabled Local Media Assets (TV) and drag it above the XBMC TV .nfo Importer.
Rescan your Library and it should work. :)
SlrG, you are correct. That was indeed the problem.
Thank you so much for your your help.
