Metadata agents for exported XBMC library

@OttoKerner I understand that it is for automatically created collections, but you can tag mp4 files using the “Album” tag, and I can set a collection in an NFO. This is how I was planning on preparing for it.

I haven’t tested that yet. Why not trying it with one file (and a unique collection name) and see if the collection gets created or not?

@OttoKerner I just tried that. It seems that the new Plex Movie Agent no longer uses embedded “Album” tags for collections. It didn’t recognize a single one of them. I even created a new library with the Legacy agent to test it, and it does recognize them.

The other thing I noticed is that embedded posters will take precedence over a local poster.

Especially with these two issues, I’m not willing to switch over from NFOs. I realize Plex will probably never support them natively, but I feel it is a disservice to the users. I have had to rebuild servers and libraries a number of times. If I had to go into each item individually to have them display the way I wanted (titles, sort titles, descriptions, collections), I’d have gone nuts. At least this way, everything is stored with the media, and Plex just rebuilds the database.

Thanks for helping me troubleshoot this.

Plex is supporting theme music for movies now. Has anyone gotten movie theme music to work with the NFO agent?

Yes, I just had to use the Local Media Assets.

@HK4LifeB I must be doing something incredibly wrong. I have the file “theme.mp3” in the movie’s folder. I am using the XBMCnfoMoviesImporter agent with the agent list setup in this order with both checked:
XBMCnfoMoviesImporter
Local Media Assets (Movies)

I’ve scanned the library and refreshed the title. It still does not play any of the theme songs when viewing the title in Plex. Any ideas?

@floatinjoe Same here! I tried that and also putting “Local Media Assets (Movies)” above the XBMC one in the Agents section. I’ve even deleted the section entirely and re-added the entire Movie library. This works perfectly for TV, but not for Movies on Chrome (Plex Web).

Please let me know if anyone figures this out.

Theme.mp3 is only supported in the “Plex Movie” agent.
It was never, and will never be retrofitted into the old Python-based agents for movies.

@OttoKerner Thank you for clearing this up.

@OttoKerner Then why do themes (from day one) work with the the XBMC NFO agent now on the TV Shows side? Logically, if one works “natively” with these old python based agents, then they both should work. Seems to me that if your code already works with one, then simply make the tweak (if required) to make the Movie side just magically work. It is clearly not a limitation of the python based agent and more a choice to not enable on movies. Please help me understand. Thanks!

@OttoKerner Or, you guys could add native local NFO file support to your native Plex Movie scraper, so those of us who use Kodi to view media in a theater room with amazing skins, and handle/export/fine tune metadata, can also get the benefit of native local metadata backup (in case Plex crashes), and thereby also get the Movie Themes benefit.

I use both Kodi and Plex. Kodi in my Dolby Atmos/Vision theater room and Plex in my home/on the run on all other devices.

These 2 XBMC NFO agent plugins are AMAZING in the fact that I can have a single unified system for Metadata.

  1. Import Into Kodi
  2. Export Metadata to Local NFOs
  3. Import Into Plex

If Plex crashes, no problem, just reload the library and files. I can’t tell you how many hours I have lost fine tuning Plex in the early years, and to my horror, having to do it all over again. I lived in constant fear. I’m using a Docker on UNRAID and the backups are never recoverable, and if I migrated the Plex Docker (safely) it would always get corrupted.

Needless to say, as a guy who use to work with Elan directly when you guys first started out, I’ve been championing Plex since day one.

For people like me who need this hybrid setup, getting themes for movies is the only missing piece. Please advise. Thanks.

The theme only works for me in TV shows. Sorry, I misread what you said, or was moving too fast…either way, my mistake.

Is anyone else having issues with Plex pulling posters using the naming convention “MovieFileName-poster.jpg”?

I created a separate thread here as oddly I couldn’t find the original XBMCnfoMoviesImporter thread for some reason…:

Is this basically dead now? I haven’t seen a response to my issue immediately above posted back in November.

I think development is very non-active but the metadata agent still works.
