Hi community
I have a QNAP NAS with the Plex Server on it. Also on the NAS, in a standard share, I have the movies, which are managed by Plex.
The NAS was installed before some features were available. I now want to do some changes to get these features running.
My NAS has 4 disks which build one static volume. I want to delete this static volume and build a Thin volume to be able to use the QNAP snapshot feature.
Unfortunately there is no official migration path, it’s only possible to delete and re-create the volume. If I delete the volume, all applications and settings get lost.
I have a 5th disk slot available.
What I plan to do now:
Setup Plex, that it does not delete the trash after each scan
Stop Plex
Put in a 5th small disk and build a volume with it alone, just for temporary use
Migrate the Plex app to the new volume - this can be done with standart QNAP functions
Migrate all the other apps as well, but this is secondary here
Backup the movies (and other files) to an external drive
Delete the old static volume
Create a new Thin volume with the 4 disks
Migrate back the Plex app to the new Thin volume
Migrate back also the other apps
Re-create all shares as they were before
Restore the movies (and all my other files)
Remove the 5th disk
Start Plex and hope it works…
Will the migrations of the Plex app move the app with all settings to the other volume?
Will my plan work? Will Plex run after this change?
Thanks in advance.
