Migration of Metadata from Windows to DSM 7.0 Plex

Bryan,

I don’t mind taking the time. It’s 7pm for me and I can dedicate the time needed.

I’m going to reiterate what you just said. Please give me a Yes/No with possible corrections where I get it wrong

PlexMediaServer/AppData is only to be used AFTER a server has been imported from the “Plex” shared folder. That folder, please forgive me, is MY FOLDER to use for PMS. Nobody should ever touch it.

If you are, at this moment, unzipping into “Plex Media Server” …

When it’s done, I need the following resultant structure for the Installer to activate.

Plex/
  Library/
    Application Support/
      Plex Media Server/
         Media/ Metadata/ Plug-in Support/ Plug-ins/ ... (to confirm)

I wrote the installer to only IMPORT (which is what you’re doing)

from the Plex/ shared folder

and then move it to wherever I need it to be (which currently is “PlexMediaServer/AppData”)

The “PlexMediaServer” shared folder has a lot of DSM 7 restrictions attached to it.
This is why I don’t let anyone casually get in there and play. DSM 7 doesn’t allow the permission resetting that DSM 6 does.

My instructions above

Are correct.

We will pick up with your efforts mid stream as soon as you get everything in the Plex share.

I’ll craft from that point forward

Thanks @ChuckPa. Yes, what you’ve described about my situation is correct. When the unzipping is done, I will create a Plex shared folder with the directory structure you listed. I will then move the unzipped files into the correct directory on the new Plex shared folder. Then, I will fully uninstall PMS from my NAS and then re-install it again so it can import my Windows metadata from the Plex shared folder into the “Plex Media Server” shared folder the installer will create. Then, I’ll continue with your instructions from above.

EDIT: I should note that I was unzipping my PMS folder in a dumb way. I had started it from Windows Explorer instead of directly in DMS, which is why it was taking so long. I cancelled the unzip and deleted what it had unzipped so far. I’ve uninstalled PMS from my NAS and I’m starting fresh with ChuckPa’s instructions above.
