Mission

I noticed this sentence in the blog post:

Our mission is to create a global community where everyone can discover, experience, and share all of the entertainment that matters to them.

I don’t know if there was or was not an explicit “mission” when I became a lifetime plex pass user many years ago, or when I first started using OSXBMC many, many years ago — a few days after @elan forked XBMC (AKA Kodi), but if there was, I’m gonna guess it was something along the lines of “create the best working, best looking self-hosted media server.”

Speaking as a longtime user and plex supporter, I don’t care at all about creating or being part of a global community. I’m neither for it nor against it; i just don’t care about any motive to intentionally create a community (which I think will arise organically and naturally if you create software that a lot of people want to use). I just want plex to be the best self-hosted media server possible.

My only concern is that wherever the motive to intentionally create a global community might conflict with building the best possible self-hosted media server, I hope that Plex will “err” on the side of making better software and let the community self-generate (since that’s what’s gonna happen no matter what you do anyway).

I guess I’m just saying “build it and they will come.”
