Moving file from one Library to Another breaks Playlists

Server Version#: 1.13.5.5291

Hi there,

One of my Libraries got a little sprawling so I decided to create a new library to move some files to.

For example, My Library Random had a subfolder Games/Chess with a bunch of videos in. I had added some of these into Playlists.

I created a new Library called Chess, pointed that at a new directory and moved the videos from Random\Games\Chess into there.

In Plex I turned off Auto Trash Emptying, then refreshed the new Chess folder to pick up the files, the refreshed the old Random folder to get it to notice the files were then missing.

So far so good. The new library had picked up the Played/Not Played status f the files in the new library.

However, when I go into the Playlist and click on a video Plex tells me it is unavailable.

Should the playlist membership also have been retained? Plex knows its the same file since it has detected the Watched status ok.

No. These are tracked differently and if you remove them from Plex, even if it’s the same file, they get removed from the playlist. There is not a way to retain an item in a playlist if you move it around.
