Moving library from Windows to Linux

Hello everybody,

I want to migrate my Plex server from Windows 10 to an Plex on Openflixr (Ubuntu 18.04)

I tried the following steps:

  • Stop Plex Server on the Windows system.
  • Stop Plex Server on the Linux system.
  • Moved the folders Media, Metadata, Plug-Ins, Plug-Ins Support via zipping to the new server and extract into the correct folders.
  • Permissions changed to plex:plex.
  • Plex started on the new server.
  • Without login in and not connection my new server to Plex account I added the previous libraries with the settings from the old server
  • Update library
  • Login and connect to Plex account

The problem is, that I don’t get my play status and all the metadata and thumbnails are downloaded new.

Have I forgotten a step, or executed something in the wrong order?

Thanks in advance

When you started the linux PMS, didn’t the the existing libraries already exist?

I tool the entire Windows Plex Media Server directory and put it in the relevant linux /Library/Application Data/Plex Media Server (or some such).

Mine did when I did exactly as you did (I went Windows to dockerised linux). All I had to do was go to each library and change the windows path to the linux equivalent (initially leaving both, then once it had scanned, I removed the windows path).

First connection it wanted a sign in.
