Moving Plex Metadata / DB locations

Hello,

I recently attempted to migrate plex data from %appdata% to another internal HDD, I copied the data over, pointed Plex to the new location and then restarted the Plex server. After that, nothing. No libraries, no metadata, nothing!

I really need to move my Plex DB location as my SSD is almost full with Plex data.

Thanks in advance.

In this folder \Plex Media Server\Plug-in Support\Databases

com.plexapp.plugins.library.db-wal
com.plexapp.plugins.library.db-shm

Delete these 2 then reboot and try starting again

Brilliant, thanks a lot! 40GB saved :open_mouth:

Thanks again, really appreciate it @spikemixture

Not really. If you don’t change a few settings, they will soon grow back.

All formerly downloaded posters and album covers are gone now. As well as any subtitle downloaded through an agent.

The proper procedure to move Plex data on Windows is described in detail here (without loss of any data)

I meant from my SSD drive @OttoKerner, I actually followed the procedure you linked to, but for some reason as I said when Plex would start it would say I have no libraries. Hence why I ended up coming to the forums.

Everything seems to be working now though, but thanks

Weird. But good to know that this may happen sometimes.
And good it worked out for you!

Mathew could not get plex to start after moving
I have copied com.plexapp.plugins.library.db 20+ times between win10/Drobo/Synology NAS
And learnt deleting these 2 files allowed it to start.
Yep they will grow again but I did not loose my watched shows.

When Plex or Nvidia allows us to see the PMS folder I will be copying the db file from my NAS. (relocating the media) only and deleting the wal and shm
