Much faster (hopefully), smaller (mostly) and better PMS builds preview (1.15.0.573-123756e9a)

pretty sure this has already been explained as a windows limitation. something about windows services not having a display context, so not able to use gpu.

if you want windows gpu transcoding then you may need to look into creating a dedicated plex user and using auto-login functions to simulate running as a service.

@tamas 1.15.0.647 just popped up as an update in Plex for my DS718+
But the link doesn’t work. I know the forum post hasn’t been published yet for that build, but wanted to let you know.

When everything you see here in this Forum Preview thread becomes PlexPass, it will be fully available. At some point thereafter, when made Public available, they will also be forwarded to Synology to include in their Package Center distribution system.

Oh good, I am not the only person losing their mind.

i have updated, now plex supports tone mapping on the fly!

What is tone mapping?

none out washed colors when transcoding hevc 10bit to x264 8bit

Same. Link for .647 is dead.

Just tried installing this version (plexmediaserver_1.15.0.573-123756e9a_amd64.deb ) on my ubuntu server (Ubuntu 16.04.5 LTS), but it does not start.

journalctl -xe shows this error:
/usr/lib/plexmediaserver/Plex Media Server: error while loading shared libraries: libva.so.2: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

Current release version works fine.

Check for the existence of /etc/systemd/system/plexmediaserver.service

If it exists, before deleting, verify the presence of /lib/systemd/system/plexmediaserver.service (where it belongs),

AND

cat /lib/systemd/system/plexmediaserver.service

Defines LD_LIBRARY_PATH to end reflect the new /lib subdirectory.

A migration error from when PMS moved to systemd was discovered. We’ve updated the installer to clean out the unwanted file in /etc but might not be in the build you have.

Thanks @ChuckPa

I had both:
/etc/systemd/system/plexmediaserver.service
and
/lib/systemd/system/plexmediaserver.service

LD_LIBRARY_PATH was set to right /lib dir

so removed /etc/systemd/system/plexmediaserver.service
and then ran
systemctl daemon-reload

and it’s working now

That’s the bug I found. Perfect.

The new installer (most likely in the next build you see), will remove the file from /etc/systemd/system

This all came about because the initial releases of Ubuntu 16.04 placed them in /etc/systemd/system which was non-standard. They’ve since complied with standard but, until now, the LD_LIBRARY_PATH hasn’t changed so the error went undetected.

To avoid any confusion,

/etc/systemd/system/plexmediaserver.service.d/override.conf is the accepted standard and supported location to customize your Plex configuration.

To all reading here:

1.15.0.573 is a little broken. That’s being fixed now. Please hang in a little bit.

1.15.0.647 was an OOOPS It wasn’t supposed to be made live because not all the pieces are in place yet.

What I can tell you is that you will be seeing it SUPER soon. We’'re making one last quick check through it and the download page to make sure everything is good.

I know everyone would love me to say “Tomorrow” but I can’t say that with 100% certainty.

We’re THAT close to full deployment.

Please just give us this last little bit to make sure everyone has a good first experience with the new builds and new features.

Supplemental: 1.15.0.573 is a manual download & update. Do not rely on the automatic

Does this new build 1.15.x will also introduce the nvidia NVDEC on Linux? There is already another thread on here about that request

Then go read the thread

Do you have a changelog or new features that are coming to the next release?

As is with all releases, everything will be in the Release Announcements

Yes, but you stopped responding months ago in that thread. Some people created a script to use the 1.15 transcoder on top of 1.14 stable. We would really like someone from Plex to reply In that thread (lots of people want to use other products that already supports it just because no one from plex reply
)

The Other Thread

I’m sorry, there are so many other threads it’s not possible to keep track of them.

I will find what I wrote in another and copy/paste it there.

Really think you should just go there to give some hope to people  Link is in my previous reply.
