Server Version#: 1.32.8.7639
Player Version#: n/a - app.plex.tv/desktop page
Although not every Music Artist does this, a growing number are. If I click the link for a Music Artist directly via the Search Bar results, or via the Artist Link on a Release page, I am met with a “Something went wrong - An unexpected error occurred” message as well as the Search Bar disabling and showing the exclamation icon. This started a week or so back when I upgraded the server version.
This only happens on the browser page - I can search for and select artists in both the iOS Plex and PlexAmp apps without any issue.
I have Optimized the Database, Cleaned Bundles, Emptied Trash, deleted and re-added anything associated with the Artist, and rolled back to different Database Backups from up to a month ago - no change in behavior.
My music library is configured per the Plex instructions, and my Scanner and Agent are both Plex Music.
Looking for any suggestions other than scraping the server instance and starting over.
I use embedded tags for my music, so I have added the releasetype tag and set it to the groupings which I want.
I think if you don’t use embedded tags plex gets this information from musicbrainz. If you want you could disable “Group albums by type” within settings / library on your plex server and refresh the metadata but that would be a bit overkill, I’m sure plex are working on a fix.
Also, using the embedded plex client is a better workaround.
For any release, either ensure it is matched (https://support.plex.tv/articles/201018497-fix-match-match/) to a MusicBrainz release (which Plex then uses to assign Album, Single & EP, Compilation, etc), or use a MP3 tag editor (like Mp3Tag) and add information into the RELEASETYPE tag matching one of the accepted values (see Reddit - Dive into anything and scroll down to a list provided by ‘StayStruggling’).
Thank you for this probably very useful answer. However, it is not very clear as I have no idea what you’re talking about or how to add a tag and how to set groupings.
Think you’re talking to a toddler who needs to learn how to read and start with the alphabet.
What is the embedded plex client and how do i get that and how do I embed it?
I can confirm that I’m seeing the same issue and I think @dokuro is onto it, in all the cases where I see the issue with an artist if I view the artist with the embedded console it shows they have only either EP/Singles or Compilations etc.
As soon as I add an album that has a release type of “album” then the artist is fine and will show the album and also the EP etc.
I’ve tried changing the release type of an EP to Album but I think the matching ignores it as it still shows in the Singles & EPs section and continues to have the problem when using the app.plex.tv interface.
Seeing the same issue. For me, happens when using the app.plex.tv interface or the Windows app when trying to view artists where I don’t have an official “album”. Seems like a problem on the plex app side, not the server.
Just wanted to bump this as it has been happening to me for a bit now when using the Windows app. The local website thing works fine, but I would like to actually use the desktop application.
+1 for me too. It is happening to me on the web app, app.plex.tv on any device. It only is affecting a few artists. I can search and click individual albums, but if I select the artist page, I get the error.
You won’t get any album type groupings. Every album including ep/singles, live, compilations etc… will now all be under one single listings, albums.
Personally, I’d not bother disabling this settings and just use the workaround of the embedded client. Plex will (EVENTUALLY Zzzzzzzzzzzzzz …) release a fix this this.
