It looks like the plex music scanner uses the "Album artist" tag to organise things with, rather than the "Artist" tag in each track.
When I browse by artist, I see albums by that artist but not any relevant tracks that may exist in a "Various artists" compilation. Id be happy to see "Various Artists" as a "virtual album" containing the compilation tracks within the search results, but at the moment they are just ignored.
Similarly, when I search on Artist, only tracks that exist in albums by that artist are returned - matching tracks in compilations are ignored.
When I search for a track that I know only exists on a compilation, the search result is returned with the artist listed as "Various Artists" which is also a bit unhelpful. (correct, if Plex is using Album Artist to index on, but still unhelpful)
So this is a request to change the music scanner to use the track artist tag rather than the album artist tag - I think it would be much more useful that way.
Secondary to that, the music search is slightly confusing. It only seems to be a filter within the selected area, so the results change depending on whether I have "track", "Artist" or "Album" selected. I'd quite like it to actually do a proper cross-section search when I press return and give me anything that matched the keyword in any indexed field.
