Native integration of Plex Notify or Plex Watch, or a replacement - ie native data export

Hoping to gather together all similar threads in one here.

This feature request is for Plex to export or 'push' data to various notification platforms such as Pushbullet, pushover, iMessage, Whatsapp or a web interface, making push options selectable. The purpose to notify and inform the server administrator of new content added, buffering problems, what and how many items are being watched etc etc.

To the unfamiliar none of these are social media platforms and the information is only intended for the administrator's benefit.

Plex Notify has died after a promising start, and Plex Watch could be more user friendly.

Please +1 AND like the original post if you support in principle (even if you have something to add).

Thanks

Thank you!

For those with android devices/phones another option is Nuvue.

+1 for this! free way to access my data would be nice.... nuvue costs, but why do 3rd party apps have better control over Plex data? I don't get this.

PlexWatch and PlexWWWatch are working Ok at the moment, but agreed it would be far nicer to have this included in a much more advanced version of Activity.

Maybe add the server usage history as well?

My biggest gripe is the high cost to send users updates. $2 for the app and $5 for updates pushed to users ... that seems steep. I'd rather my users have to pay for updates, at least something.

The cost of the Pay-It-Forward feature is really twofold. First and foremost, if you have shared users that don't have their own servers and are just sharing your libraries, and they have an Android device, then they can use nuVue Shared for free. You won't need to email them updates, as they will get them in the app the same as a full nuVue user. So, if you have 3 or more shared users, you've effectively paid for them to use nuVue at a discounted price ($4.99 / 3 = $1.66). Otherwise, they can certainly purchase their own full version of nuVue and it will work the same with your shared libraries.

The second part of the premium feature is the notification forwarding via email. It is really a "bonus feature" that you get when you pay to allow nuVue Shared users to monitor your libraries. That and a means to get notifications to any iOS user that might share with you. I agree that if you just look at it from the standpoint of $4.99 to send email updates, then the price is high and I would be the first to encourage you to find a better solution. But if you like what nuVue does otherwise, and have shared users that would like to use it as well, then paying $4.99 to foot the bill for as many of them as you have doesn't seem so steep anymore.

I wish the whole thing could be free, but as an independent app developer, much time has been invested in creating and improving this, along with ongoing costs of maintaining an online presence to handle things like delivering email notifications and sending messages to shared users. Sorry if that was all a bit long-winded. And it certainly wasn't meant to be defensive. I just wanted to give a little insight into why it is priced as it is.

Agreed. It's a strange world we live in when a one time cost < 10 bucks is something people balk at. Maintaining a server isn't cheap and if it's a one time cost you don't always have a guarantee of continued revenue.

Somehow this thread seems to have gotten highjacked from the original post.  that of bringing native support into the Plex Web App of PlexWatch or PlexNotify.  This wasn't intended to discuss a paid for option that isn't available to everyone.

We are all Pass members here, which means we have already paid for Plex.  This simple functionality should have already been integrated into Plex itself.  The functionality plexWatch has available is already written into Plex Media Server's logs.  PlexWatch cleans those logs up and gives historical data that the subscriber can use to monitor the PMS installation's health and requirements.  Integrating ljunkie's and eleese's (and other's) code into PMS shouldn't be that difficult for the Team to do, with a simple link or two the subscriber gets historical data and more information than the Plex Web App now hasn't got available.

The fact this is still 3rd party means it's not high enough on the Team's radar to bring into Plex's install process.

I appreciate the insight on NuVu, and I actually understand and can agree with that.

I guess was incorrect about my feelings regarding the pricing posted a knee jerk reaction. My biggest frustration was not being able to find the price of "pay it forward" BEFORE I bought the app. That lack of transparency was frustrating and made costs feel much steeper than anticipated. In today's day and age of service based pricing models, the one time pricing is appreciated and I applaud that. I would just ask that that all pricing is disclosed before hand, not after entering the pay wall.

I've always had an Oatmeal-ean response to not just apps, but even the initial costs. I guess it's more of me being a cheap b@$t4d.

Having said that, I do like the app and feel that it provides a very elegantly designed solution to display now playing and recently added information. Since it's Android only for now, over half of my potential users are not able to use the app. Hopefully NuVu will reach iOS one day.

Appologies to all, it was not my intention to hijack this thread.

I tend to do tangents myself sometimes. Sorry about that! Anyway this suggestion has +1 from me. While I only had a few small issues setting up plexWatch an integrated solution would be idea. Voted.

I too would like to see something built-in reporting/statistics and notifications integrated into Plex. I would understand if reporting/statistics and notifications had to be implemented at different stages (ie. stats comes first, followed by notifications a few months later).

This seems like a perfect "PlexPass" feature upsell, but since voting is pass members only, no way to gauge interest of non-pass members.

These are features that most Pass members would want to have, I would think.  Statistics, reporting, notifications, controls are all part of the administrator's tool sets, and right now the only thing available is third party or pay apps.  We already PAID for the pass, so we get double-dipped?  (I know $5 is nothing, but still, it's the idea it should already be there.)

I guess I'm not willing to make something hodge-podge work and pay for it, just to have something come along later that is part of the main app suite to begin with.  I've built enough things with bubble gum and bailing wire...

I completely agree this is the sort of feature that would add value to Plex Pass. In addition making it a Plex Pass feature is more likely to ensure the continuity most of us expect from constantly used Plex add ins.

I've added a Poll for what format we would like to see notifications, if I've missed one please let me know.

Go wild!

Email? LIke a daily or weekly added list. I guess now playing notify, but I'd prefer a mobile app for my notify.

None of the above. This feature has no interest for me. If implemented in any way I would hope it could be completely turned off so it does not get in the way of my experience.

I’m not sure why it would? Plex PMS already produces the data. Is there a particular reason you don’t like this feature?
