Need another supported plex client device

right now i run plex client on an imac, a mac mini in my theater, and on an ATV2 in the bedroom. i’m in need of a couple more and i see many supported devices, google tv, samsung, LG, Roku. A buddy of mine tried the roku, and said it simply didn’t work very well. i don’t know if it’s improved or not, but i know i don’t want another ATV2 as i would just prefer to use a supported device.

i have a few questions on supported devices

  1. do any of them let me delete files like i can from the mac client?

  2. which of these supported devices works the best, like best interface, smoothest operation

    thanks

After trying almost all Plex clients my list is:

1, Mac Mini

2, (Used) Mac Mini

3, iPad + Air play to AppleTV

I’ve tried AppleTV client and it just wasnt stable enough for daily use by my GF and my son.

I’ve tried Roku and GUI was on the slow side and Home movies + recordedTV sections did not look good at all. ( ie. Movies sections that dont have posters )

I havent tried googleTV but it resembles Roku from the screenshots ( havent see video anywhere on youtube?!)

Since I’ve used Aeon skin on all my clients for years ( 1 mac mini, 1 windows mce7 pc, 1 mac pro ) I can not see myself going back to MediaStream skin. It looks too geeky and nobody at home likes it. Aeon with ClearList view shows simple text ( with many options to see the geeky info on the side if you want it ) and thats it.

I’ve been trying out Simplex skin as well and I like it. With little bit of work (to make Home Movies and recordedTV looking good) it could be an option as well.

Now if you dont use Home movies or RecordedTV with Plex or if you’re fine with default skin then I’d have a look at GoogleTV. Roku was very disappointing device :frowning:

well, i picked up the Roku 2 XS and i don’t notice it being slow at all, and i think for $90 you can’t do better. much easier than ATV2, having to jailbreak, never knowing if updating is going to break it, and extremely slow development. the only issue i had with the Roku was the Purple Screen sometimes on playback, apparently this is a HDCP handshake issue, and according to roku it’s not the device, but it is the device because several other devices i’ve used with same HDMI cables have no issues at all. but changing the HDMI cable did seem to fix the problem so not a big deal.

i also bought a Boxee box to test, only because i need a digital tuner box for OTA HDTV on an old 42" westinghouse “monitor” that is in a spare room. while it works well for playback, the fact that i have to manually assign metadata to stuff that is found wrong, is annoying. so, that being said, it’s probably going back, just having 1 hell of a time finding digital tuners these days.

anyways, thanks alot for the response, maybe when i bring the boxee back i’ll grab the Sony GS7 and see how that performs.
