Need Recommendation for NAS to run PMS

I’ve been running PMS on a 1st Gen Intel NUC, with all my media files on a secondary internal SSD. The NUC is taking a dump on me (reinstalled Win10 and PMS, still freezes up after playing about 4 songs, or even if just idle for an hour or two), so I think it’s time to move on to another device.
Can those with experience recommend a NAS devices for me, and explain some pros/cons over a traditional Windows server?

My needs are:

  1. 1-2 TB of storage is plenty. I have half a TB now and have plenty of room, but I could consolidate some other content.
  2. I need it to be fairly mainenance free and stable.
  3. I play mainly 320 mp3/aac files, and a few 24/96flac files. No video really, although I have a couple of bluray rips. I shouldn’t need a great deal of processing power, as everything SHOULD direct stream to my AppleTV with no transcoding.
  4. RAID for redundancy would be good, but not a must.

Thanks for your recommendations - seems there are a LOT of options, not sure where to begin.

Thank you very much for your feedback - I did not know I would need a UPS. Still on the fence about just building another windows machine instead. Seems similar from a cost standpoint.

I replaced the system drive in my NUC and all is well for now. I think the NAS method is not for me, will keep using a Windows based system with secondary media file drive. It was easy to restore everything.

Thanks for your responses!
