I need live TV!
I have an HDHomeRun and Apple TV.
I’m a newbie to Plex and when I signed up for the plex pass, I set up Cloud server vs local server, thinking I could get live TV (and have a cloud DVR) that way.
However, now that I realize I can’t get either using the Cloud option, I need to set up a local server to my Plex account. How? Do I need to first delete the cloud server in order to get a wizard option in my settings to set up my local server for live TV?
When I view the “Servers” tab on my Plex app on Apple TV, I only see the two servers listed (Cloud and News). Do I need to install Plex client on my iMac in order for it to appear in this list?
I"ve just installed the Plex app on my iMac and now my Plex app on Apple TV is set to use that server. In my Apple TV plex app, I can now see my music library located on that mac. However, I still do not have a connection to my HDHomeRun device in order to view and record live TV.
Anyone know why HDHomeRun may not showing up as an option in Plex settings on Apple TV - despite the fact that its being used by Channels app for live TV on the same ATV? I have a dual frequency 2.5/5ghz router.
My HDHomeRun is connected to my wireless router via wired connected. My Apple TV is also connected to the router via wired connection.
What am I missing? Why no Live TV option?
Update. Nevermind. Now that I set up my iMac as a server, I now see that I had to select that in the Settings dropdown menu (Plex Cloud) was selected previously.
Once I did that, I now see Live TV.
UX TIP FOR PLEX UI DEVS: Use the same options for Server and Cloud and gray out the options that are not applicable to that option, along with a text hint as to why its not available and what to do to get it active.
