New server.... Cpu with our without onboard gfx

Hi
My server is due for an upgrade, and i dont know if i should get a cpu with or without gpu… Im looking for an i3 10th gen…
If plex do not use a onboard gpu i will save money

Regards

Get the one with the igpu.

Without it, you lack the ability to use hardware transcoding which is one of the main reasons to have a Plex pass. Being that you already have the Plex pass it wouldn’t be worth the small savings

The only way I would consider an Intel CPU without graphics is if you already have a Nvidia GPU for that task

To add to JaysPlex’s comments…

A discrete GPU increases heat and power draw for the system compared to using an integrated (onboard) GPU.

A discrete GPU that can be used by Plex will cost more than the incremental cost of a CPU with iGPU versus one without an iGPU.

The choice of operating system and transcoding requirements also comes into play.

If you need to transcode and tone map 4K HDR:

  • Windows: Nvidia GPU required. Intel graphics not supported.
  • Linux: Intel iGPU or Nvidia GPU supported.
