I want to have a dedicated unit to be the Plex server. I have a QNAP Nas but it would not convert everything so I am running it on my desktop. What are the best options to run the Plex server on??? I read Nvidia shield, or a mini PC…
There is no such thing as “best”, as everyone has different needs. Someone might say linux is the best but generally requires good technical knowledge to run. I personally run mine on a 2014 Mac Mini and it runs like a champ. Some are more comfortable with Windows which is fine too.
My only suggestion is that if you plan to share with lots of people get something with a decent processor that can transcode especially if you are getting a dedicated machine just for that.
Ok. I was reading that the Nvidia shield works really good as the server. Does the Apple tv work as the server or only as a player??
